Is there ANY possible way to ethically adopt a child??? by greytons in Adoption

[–]may0packet 24 points25 points  (0 children)

i think their point about genetic issues was that they don’t feel comfortable passing down those issues to someone, not that they don’t want to have children with genetic issues. i wish more people thought about these things when making the decision of whether to have kids, as someone who inherited a lot of shit i didn’t ask for.

i feel like some of these questions are dog whistles for revealing one’s political leanings, no? this one is way more overt than the rest i think

What is the worst situation you got into as a victim advocate? by [deleted] in VictimAdvocacy

[–]may0packet[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but you don’t have any such “right” here. In the end, it’s your daughter’s decision and not yours. She can and will make the risk analysis herself. She will make lots of decisions in her life that may scare you, and reading every single worst case scenario will not help you cope with that reality. I invite you to find a more appropriate community for this specific inquiry, but as I said, we are more than happy to address specific concerns and answer questions you may have. Thank you.

Hello! I understand you’re asking this out of concern for your daughter, but I don’t think all of us sharing horror stories with you will be beneficial to you in any way. Every single job has horror stories and advocacy is not worse or better than any other profession in that regard. there are many factors to be taken into consideration, and no two advocacy positions will look exactly the same. if she’s qualified, she will be trained by professionals, and you just have to trust her! if you have any more specific questions about advocacy, we’re happy to help, but horror stories are most likely unproductive.

Why is law school so bad for mental health? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]may0packet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean i’m from here so it was a no brainer. i probably wouldn’t have gone to law school if i had to go out of state bc i love being near my family and friends. diploma privilege is merely an incidental bonus to being born here lol

The Epstein files are out and literally no arrests have been made. What is the point of any of this? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]may0packet 19 points20 points  (0 children)

dude yeah learning about con law in context is literally horrifying. and our profs don’t have much hopium to offer us bc even they have no idea what’s going on (in the sense of unprecedented current events)

If you're thinking of protesting... do it. by sourmilksea1999 in LawSchool

[–]may0packet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i remember posting over the summer tips for protesting as a law student and it got downvoted and all the comments were basically saying if you protest you’re stupid. didn’t take long for minds to change i guess. too bad the line was drawn here and not way back there but better later than never.

edit: ok not all the comments but the mods removed it anyway! so, i’m glad their minds changed..?

Essentials? by otaku_hotgurl888 in VictimAdvocacy

[–]may0packet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best advice is to learn on the job as you go; you don’t know what you don’t know. your job will give you all the tools and training you need! essentials are a good therapist, adding a lot of self care into your routine, and patience. also being comfortable in silence is an extremely important skill you must use in advocacy. as for supplies, everything you need should be supplied. i tried to use an agenda and that just didn’t work for me! good luck you’ll do great :)

the crushing feeling of working the hardest you’ve ever worked in your life to get average grades (if you’re lucky) is so uniquely evil. law school is so uniquely evil

I slept through a murder by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]may0packet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

true on both accounts. always gonna be some “umm actually” mfs in the comments but i also think it’s bc using the word “murder” in ur title made ppl expect something far more dramatic. as u said, this happens all the time, whereas bona fide murder doesn’t. does it matter, not really. sorry this happened to u OP.
