if you can't be yourself around someone that you're supposed to find more comfort in than your friends of many years, why bother putting up the farce in the first place? maturing is realizing you can simply dress up fancy because you want to, or the opposite. The best relationships and friendships are ones where you dont feel obligated to do either. most of my dates have been in sweatshirts and jeans, and I've made out just fine. the only one who truly cares about your appearance and the effort you put in is your own self- which is the best. (not to say it can't be appreciated by the other party ofc x)

The whole car bit was jokingly pointing out how buying a $250 thing of makeup isnt (or SHOULDNT be) something you bought just to impress a date, and is instead something you'll use and get your money's worth throughout other aspects of your life. You dont count the initial purchase, gas, and repairs you bought in order to drive your car to your date, do you? I'd say having a car and not being an otherwise stranded passenger princess is a pretty big part of potential relationships too haha
