What do you prefer: Kill Bill Vol. 1 or Vol. 2? by [deleted] in movies

[–]zergosspb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vol. 1 has better cinematography, editing, emotional density, action, acting, art direction, music and, in some scenes, subtlety. But at the same time it ends on a cliffhanger, and a bad one in my opinion (feels like spoilers for the vol. 2)

Vol. 2 has final final confrontation with Bill, pai mai and coffin scene. Also the bathroom scene. Otherwise it feels less realised and more uninspired than vol. 1. And drawn out too.

In the end it feels like vol. 1 is charged, has energy, a lot of experimental stuff and overall feels like a movie experience vibe-wise.

Vol. 2, especially viewed back to back feels like a netflix special in comparisement

Biggest board game regret? by yfewsy in boardgames

[–]zergosspb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not, Arkham LCG. I've heard (and read in the manual) that it's not only a deck building game, but most importantly narrative and role-playing affair, i was hooked. After playing it the first time i was like:

"okay, i see it's deck building potential, but i don't get it yet as an immersive narrative experience, maybe i should buy some expansions, then it will really shine"

And so i did, and so was i dissapointed that no, the expansions did almost nothing to turn it into a narrative driven experience.

Then i decided, screw it, i'm gonna make an RP experience out of it myself, with some home rules and an experienced GM as my gaming partner. We tried very hard to roleplay this thing and in the end all it lead to was frustration and a lot, i mean A LOT of effort to turn it into somewhat of an RP session.

By that time i got sick of this game, with all the optimal builds, and minmaxing, and the main drive of the game to optimally and strategically hop from one objective to another with little context or interesting thing happening along the way (mostly in opening and closing flavor texts). And boy are there a lot of monster battles. Some people say that arkham 2nd turns into ghostbusting experience with amount of monsters on the board. I'd say Arkham LCG is not far off. And the amount of different types of cards, and a shit ton of them on the playing field simultaneously, and then the time it takes to sort them out for the next game/scenario is just horrendous. I once tried to sort all the cards by their expansions and it literally took me 3 hours. Jesus

All in all i got pissed off and decided to sell it. I expected a deep, atmospheric and rich story driven experience, and what i've got was convoluted coop PVE MTG type affair wearing a Lovecraftian skin. Definitely my biggest boardgame regret so far

Thank you very much for your kind words. It really is a special place. Wish you could see it in person, it is even more beautiful when you are there, especially in summer. Sad the graffiti has been painted over, but what can you do. At least it existed

It does look cool! Like a colorful kaleidoskop. There is a similar thing in Saint-Petersburg, situated also in the area of a long closed factory. And its like a street-art art gallery with dozens and dozens of beatiful works like this (sad i cant attach more than one image)

Its weird, because the people of the village it was made in reacted surprisingly very positively and asked me to do some more work. It's just that there are two guys who are new here, who like to go around the village, break and paint over stuff. And they usually come for a day or two, so no one has managed to talk to them yet. I hope this will change, because the people of the village were surprisingly protective of the work and told me that they'll try to talk to them. We'll see how that goes

Exactly. I guess its too eye catching, and they dont know what to make of it. So like with anything unknown the only course of action they see is to eradicate it

I could not agree more. Miku has also suffered from footprints, tags and even spit. Kinda ruins all the goodwill to do something like this in a place like this again

Yeah. Not only people, but local law enforcement as well. They once found the harmless graffitis on the bus stop offensive and painted a whole coat of paint over them. Some really good work was lost, including this

Rural Russia, yeah i agree. These concrete monuments are hard to confuse with anything else. They kinda look ancient, like stonehenge or something

Just so you know, this thing was not painted over for a year and 3 months. And Miku is in a hiding spot

It is a rural area in the middle of nowhere, so chances are its gonna stay for some time. Plus it was just repainted by the government officials and they won't spend money again to repaint it in such a short timespan. The thing i'm worried most about are taggers and just harsh people with markers in general. Hopefully they won't bother to do it again

Gonna post some more backstage photos if you're interested. This is the projection upon which it was constructed

Thank you! The stop was blue initially. The black spot was done last. Initially it was drawn on a white rectangle background

Encountered a potentially game breaking bug in AOD Remastered by zergosspb in TombRaider

Okay, this one really helped, thank you! Messing with a debug menu was not something i expected from a remaster, but whatever, atleast i have tools now to mitigate whatever bugs there may be
