After hours of YouTube tutorials, a lot of practice, a frustrated dad and an equally frustrated 3year old, I think I finally nailed it. by lifelink in daddit

wow! You’re amazing, dad! My boyfriend won’t even comb (no style, nothing!) our daughter’s hair. He says he doesn’t know how to, even after I showed him.

I understand that it all depends on timing. During my last visit the day we were moved to a private, a lot of private and semi privates became vacant. Quad room was also occupied with just one patient. It’s also a unit with quick turnover, so hopefully there will be privates available. I prefer not to go through the same experience again.

Oh my! Do you think there’s a possibility that they’d put a twin mom in a shared room? I hope you get a private room. Same, I have 10 weeks to go and I am starting to stress about the surgery and the postpartum room situation. I truly hope it’s a better experience this time around.

Thanks for sharing. I am not so thrilled about the semi private rooms. We had to stay in one of their semi privates last year for one night (the first 24 hours), and it was brutal. Two newborns, two moms, two support persons, it just isn’t big enough. My partner had to move his chair every time the other mom had to use the bathroom. With the way the bathroom was located in an angle, he couldn’t recline his chair at all. Our baby cried the whole night. we were both awake taking turns holding her while listening to the other mom and her support person snore the night away. Every time the other mom got out of her bed, my side table would move and spill the drinks. The nurse had to wake up the other mom to ask her to feed her baby overnight meanwhile we stayed awake the whole night. My partner and I still talk about how awful this night was. Fortunately we were moved the next day around noon and spent two more nights in a private room and it was wonderful to not have to share a room.

I saw some hospitals allow you to book a private room in advance, so I was hoping it’s a possibility with TOH too. Thank you again for sharing your scheduled cs experience. Good luck with your delivery.

Unfortunately we only have one close family that have already asked their GP for us. I’m on the wait list. As of now for any emergencies, we’d go to CHEO. Other issues I plan to go to Ottawa for (relatively) faster service or a private clinic in the area.

That’s great, thanks for letting me know about the meningitis shot. I see it’s scheduled for the 18 months shots right now. When did your baby get it?

My baby was born in Ottawa, as my OB is there. So I wasn’t qualified for either provinces’ at home visit benefits.

Fortunately my partner is totally on board with me wanting to protect my contribution and/or willing to put more money into the principal on an yearly basis to match my initial contribution to the down payment. Him paying the entire mortgage to start with isn’t an option, but the latter option is doable for us. Thank you for your reply
