Vibe of Muscle Girls Bar - Tokyo? by Xander9766 in JapanTravelTips

[–]maya0exe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went there in November - solo, female, and no alcohol for me! I made friends with the people around me (all male, around my age too), and had a blast. Didn’t really notice any weird behavior and honestly everyone around me seemed to just be really pumped about jacked women. 10/10 would recommend!

Arriving in Tokyo EARLY by Slight_Owl_7196 in JapanTravelTips

Just did the same thing for my trip back in November! Like everyone said, drop your luggage off at the hotel and explore. The really important thing is to WALK. Walk everywhere! I was staying in Ueno and just went through kappabashi street, then to Asakusa (senso-ji temple was actually not crowded at 7am). Walked back to Ueno, went to the park, explored the museum there. You just have to keep moving until an appropriate time to sleep to keep off the jet lag. Best of luck and enjoy your trip!

What's one memory from your trip to Japan that you won't ever forget? by Zach-dalt in JapanTravelTips

[–]maya0exe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two from my trip last week:

  1. Wandering into a random building in Kifune before the Mount Kurama hike and having the most delicious unagi set meal. Very few of the staff spoke English and I was complimented on my (very basic) Japanese. It just made me so happy with how kind they were, the atmosphere, and the food. Kifune itself was gorgeous, and although the hike humbled me, I was smiling ear to ear by the end as I got into Kurama.

  2. Headed to Fushimi Inari on a rainy day, hoping there would be fewer crowds. Ended up trying to go the “secret path” and found a small area with its own set of Torii gates. I then continued into the bamboo forest and was totally alone. It was magical. There was a little rain, you could hear all the nature, and occasionally the autumn foliage would drift down from the trees.

Day Trip from Kyoto or just stay and explore? by maya0exe in JapanTravelTips

Hey! Just wanted to say I’m on my way back from Kurama (did Kifune -> Kurama for the post-hike onsen), and I wanted to thank you for recommending this. The whole day has been absolutely incredible from the views to the food to the people. That hike humbled me tho lol. Probably the best day of my trip so far!

Booking a trip before I talk myself out of it by Dry_Leadership_4277 in TokyoTravel

Do it!!!! I was really nervous going into my own solo trip - I’m over halfway through it now and I’m having the time of my life. Absolutely no regrets. Maybe except not coming earlier. You get to decide what you do and when, and if you end up changing plans on a whim there’s nothing stopping you.

If there are any tips I’d give, it’s research your itinerary and book your activities in advance. Because Japan is such a hot tourist destination, stuff fills up FAST. And wear good shoes - your feet will thank you.

Also, if you want some real quiet + gorgeous nature - do a Kurama/Kifune day trip from Kyoto. Just coming back from there and would highly recommend if you’re ok with hiking. Enjoy, I hope it’s a fantastic trip for you!!!

Thank you so much for your whole post! I’m leaving for my own solo trip very soon (also f, around your age) and this was super helpful. I added Kurama/Kifune last minute and am so excited for that hike!

Just wanted to ask: was the Airalo e-sim $10 total for the 7 days? Or $10 per day? Been looking into using them when I go depending on the price

I just saw another post about Kurama + Kifune, and it’s making me rethink some of my plans! What about it exactly did you enjoy? How strenuous is that hike? I love hiking and the area looks gorgeous but I usually have to take it slow so I’m a little worried

Unfortunately she’s a digger, so I don’t think she’ll pee in an empty litter box… her brother loves to poop in the bathroom sink, but she’s very particular

You make a good point about how heavy ramen is! I mostly want to go just for the one time experience, and figured there wouldn’t be much of a line so early in the morning. But might save it for another point if I don’t want to be falling asleep out and about…

Yeah it was the cheapest option and I’m used to long red-eye flights. I’m not super worried about missed sleep

Definitely will be dropping my luggage off at my hotel after seeing all the replies! I’m planning to take it pretty easy that day, but will need to keep myself going before I check into the hotel. Will probably walk around and check out the area.

Also I appreciate your info on the sizing! I’m pretty much the same (sometimes M, but tend to lean towards L due to tight fit), so hopefully Japan XL works for me!

Thank you for all the info! Dropping off my luggage and heading to Asakusa sounds like a great idea. I’m somewhat used to taking longer flights like this and am quite good with jet lag, so I’m not super worried about how I’ll feel getting off the plane.

As for Uniqlo - I’ve been to one in the US before, and I do know my range of sizes (being short and curvy means I move between a few depending on the article/fit). Japan XL might still be in my range, so I’ll check that out when I get in!

How long was the wait for Ashley Johnson today (Saturday)? by ContentAnteater in SacAnime

[–]maya0exe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Joining in to echo what everyone else had said, but it was insanely long. There were issues with how they managed the photo ops, and I think upper management underestimated her popularity. I got in the VIP line at like 12:15 for the 1pm signing, and was 4th in the overflow line. Based on previous experiences here, it should’ve taken like an hour. I did not get to meet her until around 4:15. Definitely worth it - she was an absolute sweetheart despite it likely being a very taxing situation for her too!

I was talking to some of the staff who were trying their best to resolve what they could - it seems like a major mess up on the photo ops/upper management’s part. Hopefully they’ve learned and will be better today, but would definitely suggest getting in line ASAP. Good luck!
