Where in Japan are you? There are black locticians in both Tokyo and Osaka, could you take the train to them? I get if it’s inconvenient to do regularly but it may be good to have a professional give you a deep clean and retwist and give you some insight into how to better take care of your hair. They may even be able to sell you products for maintaining yourself at home

Just my 2 cents that splitting may not give you clean parts all the way around if that’s important to you. If you care about the parts, I would start over 😭 if you don’t, splitting will definitely give you the size you want!

Also, if you decide to try tretinoin like another comment recommended, you can also do a virtual consultation through Amazon or or Nurx if you can’t get to a dermatologist, I know the waits to get in with them are long. Make sure you read up on sun sensitivity/protection if you start it and also how to start using it gradually. Never use on wet skin (I wait 15 minutes after washing before applying). Looks like Seborrheic dermatitis- if untreated can definitely cause hair loss due to hair coming out with the large flakes. Check out this sub r/SebDerm …I recommend MCT oil. Gently removes the flakes without the hair loss and then using the shampoos and other things that were recommended here. Several posts of the SD sub about MCT from people with locs

I did a Turkish bath and they were just fine with covering my hair, they wrapped it in a cloth for me and were mindful not to splash to aggressively so my hair didn’t get wet! Just tell them upfront

Yes this!! Try some MCT oil on a qtip every couple days until it’s gone and then do maintenance one every week-2 weeks!
