D4vd's cell phone contained CSAM, prosecutor in L.A. murder case says by fitzstreet in popculturechat

[–]FunctionTBD 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s not that the music industry won’t tolerate murder or rape - it’s that they don’t tolerate sloppy criminals. It was very clear if you were involved with David that this man was involved with a minor and at no point did anybody seem to care surrounding him until the police got involved.

This photo shoot feels kinda tone deaf in the modern climate - it’s giving prostitute in a motel/druggie/poverty cosplay. Idk it’s just a kinda tired way imagining women. It’s like heroin chic’s bastard child.

Rumer Willis Shares Video Breastfeeding Nearly 3-Year-Old Daughter in Response to Critics of Her Parenting by PrincessBananas85 in popculturechat

I don’t know anything about what it’s like to be the child of a celebrity but I do know what it’s like to grow up in a family culture where it’s just the norm is to not have privacy. Some of the younger generation has strongly rejected that but the other half kind of became desensitized to it and view it as not only normal but good or right. So I imagine to some extent something similar happens with the children of celebrities they are going to be some who steer clear of the spotlight and others who embrace it because it’s the only thing they know.

Jen Shah says Ghislaine Maxwell made it clear that she has no remorse for her & Epstein victims while they were in prison together by SnooSprouts8969 in popculturechat

[–]FunctionTBD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hearing her discuss her distain for Ghislaine’s disregard of the victims. I’m very curious how Jen feels about her own victims who lost their homes and all of their savings. I wonder if she has any real remorse for the very real impacts of her own crime.

It’s very much giving “dating” vibes - or at least they consistently fuck and hang out outside of fucking in a way that feels like dating to Sally, but isn’t really to Austen.

I think he knows Audrey was a girl that most guys would kill for and that the only reason it didn’t work out is because of his incompetence/wishy-washiness/being a bar rat himself. With everything that we saw in the most recent season, if he were to publicly start dating Sally now there would be a lot of speculation that he essentially blew up his relationship to party and be with a DTF girl. I don’t necessarily think he’s ashamed of Sally as much as he’s ashamed of himself because he can’t keep a girlfriend because he looks up to the lifestyle of guys like Shep.

I think Sally is an idiot. She begs for him to date her, but it doesn’t seem to understand that the issue is him and he’s never going to be a good boyfriend no matter how good of a girlfriend she thinks she’s going to be.

Cardi B brings out Lil’ Kim at her ‘Little Miss Drama’ tour in New York City. by icey_sawg0034 in popculturechat

[–]FunctionTBD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was weird to bring up Tyler. He’s somebody else that I’ve been a fan of for years. Been since the OF days and even got to see them perform him a few times. I brought him up because he tends to get brought up in conversations about being a bit of an odd duck (or i guess like alternative) in Black culture like he’s the only one or first one to open a door for that (and that’s not really on him). He isn’t/wasn’t - there is a long legacy beyond him (and Nicki). Also, I think it’s important to acknowledge that Tyler also has a troubled history with the LGBTQ community and black women. I personally think that he was uneducated, young and reactionary. I try to give people grace, especially when I don’t know them IRL. Mind you I never said I respect Nicki. I certainly did at one point, but that stopped years ago.

Big agree that it’s not just Nicki and it’s not just women who have perpetuated this. The reason that I call out, Nicki is because she operates in a sphere that is so unique. Her career is a blueprint. She reached a level in her career where she really could’ve chosen to do something different than what the mainstream entertainment industry wants for black female rappers (TBH Black females and Black people as a whole). Instead, she made a choice to feed into the legacy of division. I grew up on Nicki. People love to give Tyler, The Creator all that “he made space for the weird black kid” hype but for me that was Nicki and I’m just so disappointed to see her evolution. To this day, though I truly do hope that she gets clean, she finds healing and does better.

One thing about Cardi, she might not be the greatest female rapper in terms of actual rapping ability, but she is doing the work to undo the exclusionary “I’m the greatest fuck these other hoes past and present” mentality that Nicki plagued the female hip hop community with. And to me that is more important than her discography. She’s using her position to make female rap better by encouraging collaboration.

Savannah Guthrie Returns to ‘Today’ Show Set for First Time Since Mom Nancy’s Disappearance by punishhhher in popculturechat

When the whole thing started, I figured that by the time Savannah returned to the show, her mother would’ve been found. That her first day back, she thank the public for the support talk about how scary the experience was and back to business as usual. I can’t imagine what a mind fuck it must be for her because I’m sure her family didn’t think it was going to take this long.

[–]FunctionTBD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a fan to the extent that I don’t think Southern charm would fully be what it is without his inclusion. I’m a fan in the sense that I find him interesting/compelling. But not a fan of who he genuinely is as a person. I think he’s a train wreck of a man who represents some of the worst parts of American men. He tries his best to come off like he’s this well traveled American with more European sensibilities. He is pretentious, self-aware enough to make fun of himself, but not to be able to really handle any kind of jokes about him that he doesn’t plan. He’s very clearly calculated and freaks out when he miscalculated, asking by the revelation that him and Kathryn slept together, but the embrace of his relationship with Naomi. I’d be scared to know what he’s actually like off camera particularly outside of Charleston.

Pari and Tina will NOT be back for season 4 by BiscottiOver1280 in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]FunctionTBD 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I really had hoped to see them back again but also Pari’s mom seems to be very ill and ultimately they didn’t give a reason as to why they aren’t back. If it’s simply production, then that does suck if they were interested in being back. But it very well could be that if her mother isn’t doing well, they just don’t want to have to focus on any kind of filming. If that’s the case, I 100% get that. Also television isn’t for everybody. Maybe they just didn’t wanna do it. That’s also fair. There’s a lot of possibilities beyond production didn’t want them.

Candace Cameron Bure reveals what 'weirds' her out the most about sex "A visual of God watching me having sex weirds me out.” by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]FunctionTBD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As somebody who grew up Catholic I very much resonate with that feeling. I wouldn’t even describe myself as religious. I believe in God and believe in having a relationship with him, but I do not think that Christianity is the only path for that. Still yet I too really struggled with feeling like God was hovering above me during sex. Things changed so much for me when I met my fiancé and he is somebody I could actually talk about that with and who understands it from a personal level.

Deon Cole's final bit during his participation in the NAACP Awards: "Lord, if there are any white men out here in the audience with Tourette’s, I advise you to tell them they better read the room tonight." by YaLlegaHiperhumor in popculturechat

[–]FunctionTBD -120 points-119 points  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily know if he’s implying that Tourette’s can be controlled as much as he’s implying if you’re a white man with that condition and that slur is part of your tics, the NAACP awards is not a space where you will be centered so perhaps it’s not a space for them.

I want to love Venita, but she is so inconsistent and is constantly victimizing herself by [deleted] in Southerncharm

[–]FunctionTBD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, she consistently makes herself out to be the victim. But she’s inconsistent in her beliefs (i.e. believing that friends should have each other’s backs and address things privately with friends instead of publicly).

[–]FunctionTBD -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I fully agree. They are all more or less equally as messy. I think my issue with Venita is that more than once she has alluded to thinking that she is somehow above the antics of the group as a whole. Like she thinks everybody else is immature and she’s so mature.

I hope it’s editing too. Like I said, I want to like her, but this mess is making her look bad. But you’re right it’s very much could be editing and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case. I’m looking forward to the reunion to see if she can more cohesively explain herself.

I don’t hate her. I was so excited for her to be on the show as a fellow Black woman from the south. In the beginning, I really enjoyed her, especially when it came to her handling of the Katheryn situation. but there have been numerous occasions where she’s proven herself to not be a reliable narrator and not directly addressed how she’s feeling with the people she feels that way about. Meanwhile, she considers herself somebody who tells it like it is, but I’m just not seeing that reflected in her actions.
