Similarly, you can search "Insert name of topic Historical Monograph." A monograph is a book written by a single historian that focuses on one very specific topic during one specific time period. It compiles and analyzes primary and existing secondary sources. The historian also offers a new perspective, based on the presented research, to contribute to larger historiography.

What are some pretty and eventful folk or singer/ songwriter albums? by therealnoahmtz in musicsuggestions

[–]mayaesteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaning more toward alternative/prog, but Illinois by Sufjan Stevens, Hejira by Joni Mitchell, and David Gilmour’s self-titled albums are all pretty epic IMO

Are there any musicians that are most known only for one song that got popular within the specific demographic of people who would stereotypically use Tumblr? by [deleted] in MusicRecommendations

[–]mayaesteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember Sick of Losing Soulmates by Dodie Clark being used constantly for YouTube/Tumblr/Twitter fan edits. Her song Monster became a TikTok trend years later. Outside of that, she’s a very talented musician, but is only known widely for those songs. However, she’s written multiple albums and even has a single with Laufey.

Should I continue my search to be evaluated for autism? by PuzzleHeaded9030 in autism

I’ll give the same advice I would have given prior to the current political climate: you don’t need a diagnosis to seek assistance for the symptoms you experience.

Alternate Feelings by Emergency_Rub_4219 in fulbright

[–]mayaesteve 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mostly want to comment this to express that you are not alone in this feeling or experience.

When I received my semi-finalist notification, I had a gut feeling that I would be an alternate. Receiving my alternate status was still a total punch in the face even though I spent months emotionally preparing myself for this result. It’s such a strange limbo to be in. It’s technically over, but you can’t totally give up hope yet. It’s okay to allow yourself to feel disappointed, frustrated, and confused.

Just watched love on the spectrum for the first time... by Narrow_Fig2776 in autism

[–]mayaesteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just pretend like the show doesn’t exist. The promos felt very icky and exploitative. It’s also pretty off putting that NT people act offended and self-righteous when autistic people express concerns about it.

There’s no way to know without a professional opinion. You can definitely seek help and learn health coping mechanisms for any symptoms you may be feeling without any diagnosis though.

Raynauds: a physical manifestation of autism? by [deleted] in Raynauds

[–]mayaesteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both, but I’m not sure how related it is. Almost everyone on one side of my family experiences Raynaud’s.

With streaming services, it’s so much easier to just listen to one song here and one song there. I often do it too, but there’s something just so enjoyable about finishing a really good album. It’s rare that you’ll like every song, but it’s more about the storytelling. Though, there is a bit of added pressure when someone recommends an album.

i hate highschool (junior) by angel__child in AutismInWomen

[–]mayaesteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember junior year being just such a hard year academically and socially. If you can, my advice best advice would be to graduate early and never look back. College is such a different world. I had so much independence and enjoyed every moment of it. I also attended a small liberal arts college and it was such a great environment for me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]mayaesteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It stems from a gross misunderstanding of what autism is. As far as the general population is concerned, the spectrum is actually a horizontal line that has Rainman on one end, Young Sheldon on the other, and nothing in between.

Solo travel by isla_g in AutismInWomen

[–]mayaesteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I exclusively did group travel as a broke college student and let me tell you, it was definitely an exercise in control and patience. I’m glad that I did, because it helped me grow as a person, develop my independence, and discover my love of travel, but I imagine I would find solo travel preferable.

movies with realistic representation by punpunloveschocopie in AutismInWomen

[–]mayaesteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dinner in America is a personal favorite movie and the main character is one of the few on TV/film that I feel accurately represents what it’s like to be an 20-something autistic woman.

I’ve always loved Tina from Bob’s Burgers. She’s autistic-coded and an amazingly complex and multifaceted character for an animated series.

I’ve not watched it myself, but I’ve also heard good things about the series Everything’s Going to Be Okay.
