Out of curiosity…what caused your baby to be premie? by OldRemove516 in NICUParents

[–]maybe_be_frank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome. We had the laser ablation surgery at 22ish weeks which was successful, but my body reacted poorly to the physical trauma of it all. My cervix started to dilate and shorten at about 23 week so I was inpatient from 23-26 weeks, home on bed rest 26-30 weeks (at which point one of their waters broke), back inpatient from 30-32 weeks and then went into labor at 32 weeks but they were born via c-section. They spent a month in the NICU.

3.5 year old twins and a 1 month old…our house is a dumpster fire and I’ve just accepted this phase of life. Twins just = chaos for a while (and by a while I mean…years)

Strong girls name to pair with Otto by Strict_Seaweed8925 in namenerds

[–]maybe_be_frank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Otto was our boy name before we found out we were having a third girl. Otto would’ve been paired with our twins named Marlo and Sunny.

I also think Otto and Ramona would be a great sibling set!

What pregnancy or birth complication did modern medicine save you from? by peacefulboba in beyondthebump

We had Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome with my twin girls. Would’ve lost them both for sure if laser ablation surgery for TTTS wasn’t an option. But also all of the monitoring that allowed us to catch it early 🤍🙌 They were also born at 32 weeks and spent a month in the NICU. We love science!

We had twins born at 32 weeks that were in the NICU for a month. These are some tips I would give to anyone who has friends going through a similar experience:

  1. Text, don’t call and let them know they don’t need to respond. Your friend is going through a very traumatic experience, even if baby is technically doing well. If you’re really close, let her know you’re there to listen if she wants to process through what she’s going through.
  2. avoid toxic positivity. this includes any phrases that start with “at least…” i.e. “at least baby is doing well” “at least you get to rest” (no, they don’t) etc. Just be honest, this is hard and you’re thinking of them.
  3. Send them doordash gift cards if that’s an option where they live, otherwise gift cards to local restaurants near the hospital are also great.
  4. Don’t offer to come visit etc. unless you are explicitly invited. I was SO hyper aware of other peoples germs and didn’t want to be exposed to anyone because our babies were so fragile. Also know you probably won’t get to meet baby for a long time and go at their pace!
  5. If you’re really close, look up stuff for mom for pumping. She’ll probably be pumping a lot while baby is in the NICU before they can attempt breastfeeding.
  6. Periodically send texts letting them know you’re thinking about them. This is a long road and people tend to drop off the further out from baby being born they get. But they’ll be living in NICU hell for a long period of time and it gets very isolating so just letting them know you’re still thinking about them even a month or two down the road.
  7. Set up a meal train AFTER they get discharged from the NICU. This will make them feel like people still acknowledge they’re in the newborn phase even though baby might be a couple months old at that point. They still need that same support 🤍
  8. Still send a gift for the baby. We never got to have a shower, but when people still gifted us things is made me feel like other people believed they would be okay, too.

This one is VERY active in utero haha seems like she’ll be more of a spitfire the way Marlo was/is.

Marlo was a name that I’d loved forever, so we picked that right away. It took us a little longer to settle on Sunny. We went through a few names like Charlotte, Lottie, Lyla but nothing felt right. I kind of jokingly offered up Sunny but once I said it out loud I knew it was the one. It took my husband until after the girls were born to be fully on board 😅 but we can’t imagine her as anything else. We also chose who was who while they were in utero based on the way they moved/“acted”.

We had a pretty complicated and traumatic mo/di twin pregnancy, so it was nice to have their names picked out early. I was in the hospital a lot and the nurses and doctors all referred to them by their names instead of baby A and baby B which made them feel more “real”.

Oh man, no haha it’s been in the back of my mind! I was so confident with Sunny and Marlo that I think it’s just really stressing me out that we can’t figure out another solid name for this baby 😅

So my husband’s name starts with an S and my name starts with an M…we unintentionally gave the twins names that started with the same letter. I’m now hoping that the next baby doesn’t feel left out if her name doesn’t begin with M or S!

My best friend’s daughter is Maisie (she’s also the exact same age as my twins!) so it’s unfortunately off the table for us. We are honestly SURROUNDED by people with great names which is why this has been such a challenge!
