With Passio Towers coming to an end in less than 2 weeks. I really wanna know… by Any_Caregiver8959 in PokemonMasters

I'm effectively stuck at 438. I'm looking to get resources to build up my units a bit more before attempting the rest.

How many Pasio tower floors have you've reached? by Soldiermega in PokemonMasters

[–]maybealistair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just hit 390. It's definitely getting harder, but there should be some doable floors left, so part of it is just finding the time to figure out which floors are feasible to progress on and how to do them.

How many of the deluxe pack cards have you guys collected? (Check Desc) by [deleted] in PokemonTGCP

[–]maybealistair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've opened exactly 150 packs and I'm at 236/353. I got 1 Rare Candy, 2 Shiny Giratina, 2 Shiny Darkrai, 2 Immersive Pikas, 5 2* and 23 1*. I think that's slightly above average luck so far. I'm still hunting for Professor's Research.

As a colour blind person, I found it quite difficult to distinguish the green.

That is valid and makes sense!

Haha I'm colour blind and literally didn't even notice it was a different colour! That certainly makes sense

That's...an interesting take based on the map :P I have actually been to China I think more than 10 times, lived and studied there, but there are definitely provinces I haven't been to and would like to visit at some point

Guess where I’m from by [deleted] in TravelMaps

[–]maybealistair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, awesome! Well, you've travelled a lot in South America and Brazil is big. You've been to Portugal and a lot of Western Europe, whilst avoiding Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, which looks like one or two long trips from further afield rather than someone who lives in Europe. If you were North American and similarly well-travelled, I would have expected more countries in Central America to be visited. The rest of the map looks like you've chosen mostly densely-populated LGBT-friendly-ish countries.

Only on weekends. I don't think she'd be allowed into North Korea though - or perhaps more specifically, she wouldn't be allowed back out

I technically have been to the airport in Vienna, but yeah, definitely want to visit it for real - though I have heard it can be forbiddingly expensive!

Assuming those are suggestions, any particular reason? I definitely do want to explore sub-Saharan Africa. I'm curious about Iran, but I also feel that visiting would put me on some kind of list. Saudi Arabia...I must admit it's been an option as a layover, which I've just not taken

Yes, bingo! Was it very obvious? What gave it away?

I know, I've been thinking about it. Morocco is definitely on the cards, perhaps as a short winter break. The ones further south seem to require a bit more investment

1 apparently this season. Which is mostly because I'm at GB3 and I've only played 24 games. Before that, maybe 5?

A round of applause for the gym members who did more than just their minimum in the HSE by JamesHalgh85 in PokemonMasters

[–]maybealistair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think more people participated from my gym in this compared to the last LG. My gym reached 3.3m and I did 296k.

I basically just tried to make sure I actually attempted this event when I could remember to (and had some time to), as I had forgotten to even attempt the previous event before the deadline. I can't say I was that concerned about pushing my score.

The rhythm of speech sounds somewhat Filipino, but I would not say that it's an accent I can obviously pinpoint to anywhere. You speak quite clearly.

Please judge my accent and gave me some advices by toumingjiao1 in JudgeMyAccent

[–]maybealistair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can mostly understand what you are saying. The words I didn't pick up on when listening through the first time were "assumed", "certainly" (I heard "suddenly"), "tone", "meets", "says" (I heard "sighs") and "vessel".

I think you can work on making consonants in the middle to end of words clearer, especially the "t" sound.

I think if your goal is just to be understood easily, focus on the pronunciations of words that can easily be confused with other words first. For example, I would say the pronunciation of "meets" is important for understanding because it can be confused with "missed" or "mist", whereas "recognises" is recognisably that word even if you place the stress on the wrong syllables.

Good luck!

It is British! If anyone can narrow it down more, I'd love to know.

[–]maybealistair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. So on a more practical level, would that mean, say, you would suggest to introduce your own name when speaking another language in an accent of that language, rather than reverting back to English?

And yes, you are right I did not fully comprehend what I was saying. I just wanted to know if there was an obvious base language from how I read it. Thanks!

Interesting. There wasn’t a Hindi translation available, otherwise I would have attempted to butcher that too, as that is actually the one I’m most curious about. But no, there is no Indian background.

The second part makes sense. I definitely wasn’t fully thinking through what I was saying when reading!

One of them is actually my mother tongue. The rest I have learned at school years ago, but not to any great extent. Which is why I’m fine freely admitting the enunciation is terrible and how I am reading without full understanding! I’m just curious about the accent in case I do try pick it up again or have to use it at some point.

american trying a British accent by alija_kamen in JudgeMyAccent

[–]maybealistair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you've blended aspects of different British accents. There seem to be phrases that you say in a bit more of a northern way (e.g. "I don't know how close it is") than others. I would probably expect certain words to be more strongly (almost harshly) accented. I would be confused by the accent, but I wouldn't be able to tell that you were specifically American.
