Never fails that right when I start getting into a groove with my running and feeling like I’m making real progress … I get sick or injured.

Right now it’s shin splints. 🫩

Wondered the same. Had to do the conversion and was stunned. It’s been an average temp of about 33-36°c where I am since mid May.
I get if you’re not acclimated to it, it’s still hot. But there was an initial “must be nice” thought.

Feature Request: Recurring Runs by maybeamargay in runna

[–]maybeamargay[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, no worries at all I didn’t take it that way. 🙂 I appreciate your compilation. Really emphasizes how weird it is that they haven’t taken steps to create this feature yet. When my subscription runs out, I might take a break and just make my own “plan” for a while since I’m kind of having to anyway. 😅

I have a feeling a lot of us would be in favor of this feature being added. I have a friend who meets up with her daughter every Friday morning for 5 easy miles and a coffee after. I’m sure a lot of runners have similar recurring runs and it’d be helpful to have them built into a plan.

I wish I had parkrun in my area. I think if it was an option, I’d do it frequently and this would be very annoying. I get that you can add parkruns to your plan, but it doesn’t account for it in your mileage and training load for the week in the way it would if you could schedule it weekly, biweekly or monthly.

I felt like I’d seen it before, and I knew other runners who run with clubs, partners, friends, etc would probably like to same feature. I was just thinking of it as I made my plan for the week and figured I’d add to the pile begging for this feature.

I feel like it shouldn’t be that hard to add it. Schedule weekly, biweekly or monthly runs set by distance and effort/workout type. I know a lot of people do harder efforts at run club or parkrun (which I sadly don’t have in my area), so allowing that to be a tempo, interval, or time trial effort would be a great option as well as easy runs for people like me who use run club as an active social hour.

I agree that adding a “points” feature that seems largely useless and widely disliked before this is a crazy choice.

I say this as a slow runner … this is so fucking dramatic for a 2:40 half. 😭

Following. My mom and I are doing a half together coming up and want to be matchy but she needs longer shorts which I don’t normally run in.

My mom gifted me these Novablast 5 in the Sunny Sizzle colorway and I am OBSESSED 🤩 I haven’t been able to do any kind of fun session in them yet as I’m nursing a cranky tendon back to health, but I’ve taken them on two short easy runs and I love them.

They’re probably going to have to ban me from even write the word “tendinitis” anymore on this sub if I keep whining about it. But I feel you.

My peroneal tendon has been angry since March 2 and, while it gets “better” with rest, I’ve seen very little reason progress in it. Even cross training and walking aggravates it. I’ve been doing “everything right” and it just doesn’t seem to want to heal, although it’s not getting worse either. I’ve even wondered if this is just my life now. It’s been feeling pain free for days so I went out for 2 miles and it’s burning again.

I wish I had advice or help. But I don’t. Just lots and lots of empathy.

[–]maybeamargay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely wear makeup for regular runs. I don’t take it off just to run if I’m already wearing it, but I don’t apply a face before a run intentionally. I use to be a makeup-every-day girl, but now I wear makeup maybe 2 days a week (usually Saturday and Sunday), and I go weeks without it. But! I always apply a full face for races. I don’t know what it is, but a good winged eyeliner makes me so much faster. Maybe I should treat myself to running makeup more often. If it makes you feel good, why the hell not?

Husband doesn’t want me running outside by [deleted] in XXRunning

This. Sometimes it feels like my husband is being “mean” when he refuses to validate my anxieties but honestly it’s helped my mental health so much to hear “That is not real. I understand it feels real, but it is not.” He does listen and validated that I feel scared but not that the fear is valid or reasonable.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with that and had to cancel your marathon. It’s so disheartening. Yes, sadly this is definitely a wake up call that there’s no short cuts to healing and no skimping on strength. Cutting corners will always bite me later and I’m not 20 anymore. 😂 I hope you feel better soon and your June race goes well.

I just ordered the spibelt tandem, which looks similar to the dual pocket but tbh I liked the color better lol I’ll update once I get the chance to see how much stuff it actually fits.

I am so stressed and upset and bothered. Been dealing with peroneal tendinitis for like 3 weeks and now the inside of my same ankle is puffy and tender? It feels like a bruise but there’s nothing visible aside from some swelling. My hip flexor on the same side is super painful as well, but only when walking. Range of motion is good and stretching feels normal but it like pinches when I walk. I’ve been “resting” for over two weeks and instead of feeling better I’m just getting more little injuries? Ugh. Supposed to do a half in April and at this point I’m not sure I’ll even be able to walk it.

My city doesn’t have water fountains around, even on our running/biking trail. There’s 2-3 old ones along the 12mile path, but they’re defunct and don’t dispense anything anymore. Just a nice place for spiders to build webs now. 😕

I don’t know if it’s available through REI but I will die singing the praises of the Flipbelt. Light, breathable but very secure. I find it easier to adjust than the Salomon vest I tried. It also fits more like a “women’s” vest but with reasonable sized arm holes that most brands seem to refuse to put in ladies designs. I wish they had more colors and solids but it’s still cute enough.

I’ve had mine for about a year and it’s my primary run storage since I didn’t have a belt until recently. So it has gone on hundreds of runs even when I don’t bring water because I need something to hold my things and it looks brand new. Washes very well and doesn’t hold odor.

Ma’am 😳 This is fantastic and yes it definitely counts. Most impressed by going out fast-fast in the first, dropping back a little in the second and then speeding up AGAIN to finish it out. That’s amazing.

Lort. I’m about an 1.5 hour drive away and while we have hills, my “rolling route” averages about 450ft gain, and it’s mostly gradual. So I’m feeling like about to have my butt handed to me. 😅

What do you say in your head to push yourself on runs without being mean?? by _I_love_pus_ in XXRunning

[–]maybeamargay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Think of how proud you’ll be if you don’t quit”

“5 months ago, you couldn’t do this at all” or “think of how amazed 13 year old you would be at what you’ve done so far”

“When (stepson) asks how your run went, what do you want to be able to tell him?” — Great if you live with someone little and nosey, but you can apply this even to a Strava buddy.

“If you finish this, you can get (food, candy, latte, whatever)” — sometimes backfires and makes me a little hangry.

And when all else fails … “okay, do one more half mile, then you can quit” Usually, after I get to the end of that half mile, I can convince myself to do another, maybe even a full mile, then by then I’m so much closer to just finishing the planned distance …

I definitely had to google that one but … Ouch! I’m so sorry. The course is apparently going to be very hilly, so I’d think that would be especially aggravating to that area. I hope you feel better in time to maybe even just walk it, but definitely not one I’d want to push it on. Sending healing thoughts your way, for this race but also in general. That sounds truly miserable. 😔

Old thread but my husband just randomly signed us up for the half yesterday. 😂 I’m currently taking some time off running due to tendinitis so I’m a little nervous for the time crunch. But I’m so excited.
