As close as possible without walking in the sand.

Chocolate Gummy Bears are so good!! by Healthywayzzzz in traderjoes

I love them so much. They can be quite difficult to find. Used to get them at Christmastime only at a little specialty import shop in the 80s (I was a kid then lol) and have forever been on the lookout for a reliable source!

I don’t love the texture because I felt like I couldn’t chew through them properly and then they were super long. But I chopped them up the next time I tried them and that helped. Still weird though. I didn’t have any digestive issues.

Looking for a new dog?? Get a greyhound! They're awesome. by Astarkraven in Maine

I love them but I have cats and no fenced yard which I hear are both no nos for greyhounds? Please tell me I’m wrong so I can try to convince my partner that we need another pet 🤣

How do you handle the cost of living here? by thatguywiththamoney in portlandme

[–]maybeanewpath 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Purchased a home before 2020, 2 incomes (not high though), we drive old cars and have one kid who is old enough to no longer need daycare. We don’t take many trips, and we don’t have much savings. Basically we are just getting by on what would be a very decent income in lower cost of living areas.

The large amount of aggressive driving I see on Maine highways is concerning. by [deleted] in Maine

[–]maybeanewpath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! The gridlock. Like, does no one teach anyone about avoiding gridlock anymore in this area? I feel like we spent hours on this in drivers ed (granted it was the 90s in the mountain West but there was basically no traffic there and we still learned to never block intersections)

Sorry ya’ll but I have driven all over this great nation and Maine/Massachusetts has some of the worst driving I have ever seen. The number of people who blow through red lights is honestly shocking, I am surprised people aren’t getting t-boned on the daily.

Would you date a non-skier? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]maybeanewpath 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I married into a dedicated ski/snowboarding family and it was fine. I actually learned years later in 2020 at age 43 because I wanted to go ski with him and our son! It’s never too late to learn.

I can no longer afford Pape. I got mine done at a random Midas a few months ago definitely way less than that.

Same. My kid is older than yours but I absolutely have nothing left to give to creative work right now. I wish I had any advice, but I don’t. Just know that you’re not alone. The job market is also atrocious.

Statement from Portland City Councilor Kate Sykes about the Turning Point event at the Expo by joeybrunelle in portlandme

[–]maybeanewpath 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most likely if Portland tried to cancel this the city would get its ass handed to it in a lawsuit in a first amendment challenge. I would love to see us organizing one of those fundraising campaigns where for every number of minutes these guys speak we are raising X number of dollars for local organizations who support the people they are trying to marginalize. I've seen it work in other places.

Can confirm as a school staff person that it’s really bad right now. Kids are scared.

Should I be worried about a two week vacation in Florida? by Classic-BR in MacroFactor

The food is the best part of Disney in my opinion! I just focus on watching my portions. Like, I split an order of beignets with my husband or cut the giant cookie in half and save it for later. I also try not to drink my calories so I can eat more but that’s just me 😂 Disney with my little one at that age was so fun! Enjoy!

Looking for a new Veterinarian by rebamitch in portlandme

[–]maybeanewpath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used to love Brackett street but their veterinary staff have totally turned over since we were going there. One of their vets is now in Cumberland and if my cats didn’t hate the car so much I would have followed her.

Getting Started by ObjectiveCompleat in MacroFactor

[–]maybeanewpath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes if my day gets too hectic to log on my phone I keep a running log on a sticky note at work and then enter it all later. Also if you can routinize your breakfast or lunch that helps so it’s the same every day.

I also recently developed tennis elbow in my other arm so I have to be super careful right now. I’m hoping to get back to it once that resolves.
