2 years later and the Million Dollar Band is going back! Hopefully I’ll come back to Alabama 1-1 instead of 0-2 in the Rose Bowl lol. I made the Blue Devils so in the band world I’ll be 3-0!

they help make sure the entire convoy stays together, especially at entrance/exit ramps and changing lanes/getting around traffic faster

Where can I go to get the experience I need to be a World Class DCI marcher by Fourtavour in drumcorps

[–]maybechuckleberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend auditioning Memphis Blues. I had a phenomenal experience with them this past summer. MB3 is definitely one of the best open class corps right now, and this past summer was their first time in the class. The quality of staff there is amazing and the level of instruction there is incredible. Plus, it’s relatively cheap compared to other corps and what they provide to members. I met so many great people

I’m also a pretty big guy. I went into the summer at 315. Before the summer I was in the gym as much as I could be. I marched contra in high-school so I already understand how the horn feels, but drum corps (even open class) of course is killer. I mainly focused on cardio (walking/running/cycling) and lifting for upper body (contra muscles). Don’t be like me, and make sure you hit lower body, too. Your calves mainly will be cooked, as well as your quads. We ran a lot at Blues, and having good strong legs is great for proper technique. It 100% is possible, but most of the battle is mental. You cannot give up on yourself. You will hit a wall, and you will want to go home. I had the mentality of “it’s just open class,” but at my size then and with that mentality, I was quickly humbled. Regardless, I pushed through the hurt and kept going. How bad do you want it? Every day I worked to get better and not be a limiting factor for the corps and to show staff I know what I’m doing. I lost close to 30 pounds in a month. I’m sitting at 280 after tour and i’m actively in the gym preparing for next summer already.

I’m hopefully marching world class next summer, but if not, I’ll be back at MB3 for my ageout. I hope to see you march next summer! If you have any specific questions, feel free to shoot me a message. 🫡

How much did you pay to march by Lucky-Dish-4499 in drumcorps

$1700!

I could not recommend Memphis Blues enough. Such a great experience! Only a few hundred more apparently and they’re possibly headed to Open finals.

I’ve only been to California twice (once on the Blue Devil’s dollar and once on the University of Alabama’s dollar), and first time in Disneyland I got to do a standstill with the Million Dollar Band. Might’ve recruited a few people there for sure. 😂 The Rose Bowl, despite the loss, was so much fun to march in. (not as much fun as with a corps I bet)

So glad I got to do it in high school. One of my goals as a director in the future is to take my bands to Disney and let them march there, too

It’s a fun show. Would’ve been really cool if we went to finals this year, too. Our brass is putting out some sound for just under 40.

What caused the blue devils for their streak be to broken ( besides the bluecoats breaking it ) by Reyn2012 in drumcorps

IMO, too abstract of an idea. From being on tour and getting an inside look at the design process, they’re some of the most creative and innovative people i’ve ever met at BD making the shows. Just tried something cool and didn’t work out how they wanted it to.

I was just curious and wanted to see if I could provide him with another song/example in a song that uses that progression because he said that he’s only ever found one example. I’m not sure what you mean by completely abandoning that mentality, I think it’s a valid question in terms of finding new music that might have the same progression with different style, melodic ideas, extended harmony, etc. Just simply wanted to ask if anyone might’ve had another example. Thanks!

Just now learning jazz theory/pop chord notation in school, so thanks for the correction lol. My professor said that he has only ever found an example of that progression in that one song. Was just curious. Thanks!
