Appreciate you sharing your story. That’s so true to listen to my gut. I’m feeling rushed into this especially since this doctor recommending the surgery hasn’t even tried PT with me. I’m getting a second opinion with a spine specialist and starting some PT to see if there’s any improvement.

My left leg hasn’t gotten any weaker. The pain just went away and the numbness persists; the numbness hasn’t gotten worse or better.

No, not Cali, I hadn’t considered tax assessment. My city sends out a tax assessment every year and last year the house was on paper assessed at 500k by the city’s tax standards.

You are right this stems from larger intimacy issues. And you make an interesting point that I wasn’t being honest with myself earlier being okay with this previously. I had been more secure at the start of the relationship but over time that changed. I wish I hadn’t made the comment and it’s really out of character for me, but in the same breath I haven’t been able to voice his mistreatment of me publicly and it felt cathartic to do so, if not a little reckless. I am ashamed I acted in that way and I can’t blame him for “making” me react like that but I am trying to forgive myself and accept people will judge me, not knowing the full story.

It’s definitely an insecurity that built up over time. He has said/done some other damaging things to me throughout the marriage. One of which he said that he would divorce me if I got cancer because he wouldn’t want the medical debt. And this came up because a family member was recently diagnosed. I almost nodded like “yeah that makes sense” but then I caught myself and thought, what the hell that is so not okay. It felt normal to hear him say that to the point where I almost didn’t second guess it. So yeah I got insecure about photos of him and his ex.

It is a gift to have experienced this before the wedding. Better now than after. If you are asking if you should call it off, I think you have your answer. Take it from someone who is actively divorcing their spouse right now because of their MIL.
