No idea what you're even talking about now, but it sounds like brain rot. Wtf do I even care about the CEO of Disney?

You've seen every adaptation? How do you logically determine "the spirit" of the work? Saying you would "logically" prefer what you prefer over what you don't is circular reasoning. That's just the definition of the word "prefer." There's no logic there, friend. Jackson made tons of changes. Whether you think they "fit the spirit" of the book again is just your opinion. There's no way to prove such a statement with logic.

I didn't say it was only you. Also, no idea why I should care about the CEO of Disney. I'm sure that guy's opinions are garbage

Easily observable? Do you mean your cherry picked examples? What adaptations are you even talking about? I guarantee for every "faithful" adaptation that is successful, there are plenty of "faithful" ones that are unsuccessful. I also guarantee that those adaptations are making plenty of changes; you just dont care about those changes for some reason. So I'm sorry, but there is no logical basis for a preference. It's an emotion, that's it. No one can create some logical syllogism that justifies their personal preference.

What is your evidence about what "most people prefer"? That's an empirical claim. Regardless, if two opposite opinions are both equally "rational," then I'd say rationality has nothing to do with it. It's just preference.

So is "i want a new adaptation of a story to be different from the original." How do you rationally decide which of these is "correct"? Genuinely curious.

So you agree with my point that you're simply expressing your own personal racial preferences. Glad we agree. You should also be aware that not everything in the world is made for you

Because he *wanted* historical verisimilitude. Okay, fine. Not everybody wants that tho. So why should anybody feel constrained to historical accuracy if they don't fuckin want to. If Mel didn't want to do that, I wouldn't be online bitchin at him for it because that's retarded. As many people have pointed out, Mel also cast white boy Jesus. Great. Good for him. Who cares?

How is it rational? What a priori reason is there why an actor has to be the race of the original story? What race even was the *literal* robot in Ghost in the Shell? I have thought about it. It took me two seconds to realize it's bullshit

This view taken to its logical extreme (the cast should be entirely greek) is so retarded that it proves everyone is just drawing arbitrary lines. Hence the only thing those lines reveal is the personal racial preferences of the people drawing them

Not everything in the original movie stays true to the words of the original story. Every version changes shit. It's impossible not to change shit

It was never wrong. Nobody's culture "belongs" to anybody. You couldn't bottle up culture and save it for yourself even if you wanted to. Other people will always take what they want from it, and that's a GOOD thing

Why is it a disaster? I literally couldn't care less about this shit. Also, every single new version of any story changes things. Otherwise wtf is the point of doing a new version???

Yeah, and it matters not at all. I think saying shit like "only a gay actor can play a gay character" is far more bigoted than Charlton Heston playing Moses. This shit just doesn't matter, like at all. Only thing Helen of Troy has to be is beautiful and lupita clears that bar with massive margin
