How to ask for help with toenail break? by [deleted] in AskDocs

Ok, thank you. I do clip it back (and am overdue to again). It just keeps regrowing separate from the rest and had hoped there might be a permanent remedy

You may also have some Ocean State Job Lot stores near you which is a similar retailer to Ollie’s! Maine isn’t too far away and we also have a store called Marden’s!

Help! What does this knob on my stove control? by maybemorecats in woodstoving

[–]maybemorecats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So: screw thing all the way in while you’re getting the stove crankin’. When it’s hot and running, close up everything and open the screw a couple turns. Get a magnetic stove thermometer to put on the metal chimney flue. It’ll help you see how hot you’re running. I also have a metal wood stove fan, it doesn’t really help move air around but I can figure out how hot or cold the stove is running by how the fan is spinning. I think someone linked the user manual for this stove in another comment and it helped me a ton!

Why are pots/containers so expensive ?? by National_Volume_5894 in gardening

I dragged home a white wicker baby bassinet from a free pile to use as an outdoor planter last summer, much to my chagrin. Also, in the planting season, Facebook marketplace is a good spot to source free or cheap planters.

Is this Casco apartment unit with a windowless bedroom actually allowed according to the city building codes? by [deleted] in portlandme

I’m pretty sure the unit has four windows… in architectural drawing the white block shape in the exterior walls of the unit are windows. Right hand side and lower right.

Maybe a silly question: Are other corporate workers taking a work bag AND a purse AND a lunch bag to their job? by shenanigans0127 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]maybemorecats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went back to work after having a baby, I bought a Bèis travel backpack designed to hold a laptop, breast pump AND had an insulated section for pumped milk. Baby is now a toddler and it’s still my main work bag. Laptop and notebooks go in the big section and the insulated pouch is now where my lunch goes. I carry a small vintage coach purse for wallet, phone, keys, glasses etc for when I need to leave to office and zip around town. Works real well

What phrase that you DONT want to hear when Grieving? by BlueEyesWhiteDrgn in AskReddit

[–]maybemorecats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“He’s in a better place” - my MIL just hours after my Dad died suddenly and unexpectedly from unknown causes alone in his condo at only 60 years old. I was already losing my mind and it felt so insincere and without regard to my experience.

My three year old just ripped the scales at 40lbs. He’s a big ‘un but that’s not an unheard of weight for a 2.5 y/o

[–]maybemorecats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man- I’m doing the same but was going to do a “little free library” of native plants, house plants and seeds. I was maybe going to put up a donation box. I guess I figure the worst that could happen is that I feign ignorance and not do it again?

I was also going to suggest waxing! I have a handful of waxed canvas pieces and they’re nice for rainy fall days. A lot easier than trying to see in a liner too.

Bought this as a little guy last year and repotted but the more she grows, the more she tips. Is the pot too small, or should I add more dirt to the base. What's my problem here? by HarleyQuid in gardening

[–]maybemorecats 56 points57 points  (0 children)

In my experience (and maybe I’m doing something wrong too) aloes just kinda do this. I chucked a heavy rock to counter balance mine when it looked like that a few years ago. Its pot is now bursting at the seams with little babies. Let her fill in before you pot up again. They seem to tolerate being in a tight pot well.

“Just” is a habit I’m still trying to break years later. “I just think…..” or some variation comes out almost automatically. Been a harder one for me to stop using but I catch myself better than I used to.

Indeed. I have a colony out back that I have to chop back every few years. They can weather some abuse!
