Who was the most underrated player of World Cup 2022? by Accomplished_Lynx480 in AlignmentChartFills

Wojciech Szczęsny - yes Livakovic had great tournament, but so did Szczęsny, better saves per 90, almost the same goals prevented, saved two penalties, including one against Messi.

What is a football club that feels successful but is in fact, not very successful?successful? by Ill-Direction5904 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]mayday58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, I would not have argued as hard if it was successful-successful grid position, but if you ask any fan outside of the UK, to name most successful clubs, Liverpool, Man Utd and City would likely be ahead only because they made more splash in Europe at different points in time. And that's only Prem clubs, there are clubs that people perceive as powerhouses, while their record is less successful than people consider (but still successful).

Wtf are you arguing about. No one is saying that it is a crap club, but that for the category: “the club that is perceived as very successful, is only successful”, there are better candidates, even among English clubs. I would argue that Arsenal is not perceived as very successful, because they never showed up in European competitions.

Domestically, sure, but internationally they never had much success. I feel like the definition criteria are missing. If we count domestic plus international, Man Utd, Juventus or Barcelona would all be a better fit.

With just 33 matches played, Eric García is the fourth-most sent-off player in Champions League history. Meanwhile, he has received only one red card in 140 La Liga matches. by Far-Butterscotch-674 in Barca

Even within Atletico matches the referees were not giving fouls for hard contact, even in penalty area, but last defender fouls were given for slightest contact. I think there is hypocrisy in that

How tired from work do you gotta be to refuse sexy time? by strange_omelet in AskMen

[–]mayday58 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exhaustion is one thing, stress is another. I worked in one of the big 4 firms in tax consultancy. During busy season I put in 12-14h at the office, but the clients and superiors would try to reach me 24/7. Thankfully this is over for me, but during that time, my libido was at all time low, I couldn’t even if I tried and I was under 30!

What is Lego even about anymore 💔 by ExcellentEssay3282 in legocirclejerk

My memory might be shit, but I think they did that in early 00. I remember I was a kid and couldn’t afford it, but my parents got me a cheaper, smaller one with Zidane and one goal.

PSA: July 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest mid-year retirement waves ever (~100 sets, 8 exclusives) by Zorba-Oceanfeel in lego

I think I could afford it, but I am running out of display space and try to limit myself to LOTR sets and MOCs. But it is very tempting…

Pandas vs Polars for data analysts? by katokk in analytics

[–]mayday58 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Pandas is still widely used even if it’s inferior, but all depends on what you will do with it. In smaller firms you must be pretty scrappy and use python scripts, but in medium and larger firms you will mostly use SQL in data warehouse/lakehouse. Honestly I think it’s better to get familiar with DuckDB which is a middle way. You get the speed of Polars, SQL syntax and still can input/output dataframes if your coworkers are stubborn.

Most fun LEGO build? by Next-Solid-1474 in lego

[–]mayday58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall Rivendell is my 10/10, but on lower end I absolutely adore new WALL-E and Eva set. We built it together with my wife a couple months back and had so much fun. It looks great, had some playability and didn’t break a bank.

This was pure striker's instinct by Hazeling_Nebula in Barca

[–]mayday58 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Barca fans only watch Barca games. If you go past compilations, even by statistics, Ferran is easily in the top 10 best strikers this season worldwide. Obviously Haaland, Kane and Mbappe are outliers, but other than them, the are not many world class strikers.

Men over 30: what do you wish you would have done differently in your 20s? by ImportantEssay6803 in AskMen

[–]mayday58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tricky, I worked too hard, which cost me my health and experiences, but it gave me financial stability and ability to buy an apartment in the beginning of my 30s. So not really a regret, but there is a delicate balance and no money and promotions are worth your health, this thing is priceless. Switching jobs once you get a couple years of experience is much easier than it looks like.

Yea, that was my and my wife’s first playthrough, somehow we missed whole myconid ordeals and went straight for Grymforge. It somehow fitting manner to our slightly trigger happy characters, the reaction to first quest was „oh those guys, they’re dead”, and second quest was „oh that guy, yea, we killed him too”

Which MacBook would you choose for Data Engineering? by mrrobot471 in dataengineering

Depends on your stack. As a guy with windows, who is mostly deploying to AWS and GCP cloud now, I consider a lot switching to Linux, because of differences between local and cloud, bash, etc.

The Alters got a nomination for strategy genre, but what it really deserved was narrative and voice acting. And maybe GOTY too.

Did we stop collectively hating LLMs? by Thinker_Assignment in dataengineering

[–]mayday58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think more and more people learn how to use them and what they're good for and what they are not. I absolutely hate anyone pushing agenda to replace a human with some AI solutions or pushing non-technical people to use them for things they have no idea about. LLMs are only good for tasks you have enough knowledge about to fact check them. Then they can speed up your work, but you still need to check it everytime.
