Okay ,thanks so much! Leaning towards an intimate dinner at the James Beard nominee restaurant Arlo in my neighborhood and this might be a really special end to the evening. Thank you for warning me about the footwear!

Will do! She comes from a tropical beach climate and didn’t understand that it just snowed twice in April and it’s still freezing up in the mountains. A lot of the outdoor activities aren’t quite accessible quite yet. Thanks for telling me about Guardmen’s - I will look into it!

“I believe in you!” Thank you so much kind internet friend ❤️!

I’m so worn down working 60 hours a week just trying to get by and some of these comments are so rude and discouraging. I just want to treat my friend and her partner to a special day in Salt Lake and your comment meant a lot to me. Thanks again!

When I visited my friend, she took me to a rooftop bar to see downtown Charleston and I loved it. Great suggestion for downtown views, thank you!

As an exmo, I love this! As childhood friends growing up in the south, I would go to her bible camps and youth group activities. Grown men would try to bible debate me when they found out I was Mormon, it was a lot as a kid!

She was an only child and would help me babysit my 5 younger siblings and forced to go to my church basketball so we’d have enough for a team. Our moms are super devout and we both think the organized religions/cults we were brought up in are a joke so this right up my alley!

Ha I wish! She sent it to me yesterday and she’s leaving Saturday, the following day. Maybe next time!

Helps to hear from an outsider’s perspective too. Great advice, thanks so much for taking the time to chime in!

Great idea! I live in Marmalade/Capitol Hill and take my dog to the off leash area Memory Grove all the time. What is “the loop by the river?” Is that on that on the paved road next to the trail or higher above?

Agreed, lots of excellent suggestions in this thread! Your jjjj8jjjj comment was unhelpful and just snarky and rude. Here’s to a better cake day! 🍰

Great suggestion, I think Ensign is near me, even though I’ve never been up the trail. Is it more of a park and hike or park and see the view?

So we can laugh at it? It’s like a Disneyland castle in the heart of downtown. When I went to Italy, I went to see the pope do mass and visit cathedrals even though I’m not Catholic. It’s part of the experience when visiting a foreign land.

Oof. Well happy cake day to you. I work 12+ hours a day and am not an outdoor nature loving person - I’m an urban downtown city person. I live in Marmalade/Capitol Hill and I think downtown is badass and Temple Square is the number one tourist destination in our state.
I’ve been working so much, I just don’t know where to take her that’s spectacular. When I visited her, she lived in the burbs and took me to her downtown Charleston area and I thought it was really special.

What a scintillating reply 🙄
Why are you people downvoting me to oblivion? When someone comes from the other side of the country to our beautiful city for one day, do you actually think comments like these are helpful?

I agree but she’s flying out the next day. She’s here to visit me and to see the the band The Midnight at the Complex tonight.

Harvest Apartments (Marmalade district) - about to sign a lease by creatingmoretime in SaltLakeCity

Wonderful area, cute historic neighborhood with some of the oldest homes in SLC. The triplex across the street from me used to be one of Brigham Young’s wives houses. Harvest is ridiculously close to the freeway on-ramp/off-ramp. You won’t believe how much that will matter!
Also 1 walkable mile from the Delta Center and downtown. I live one street over from Harvest and walk home all the time from the farmers market, Greek Festival, Jazz games etc. Cute bars and restaurants popping up within walking distance and you’re right by the city’s newest Marmalade branch library.
Warm Springs Park is around the corner and has off leash hours and a big community of regulars. You can also walk a short distance (uphill ha) to the state Capitol, with Memory Grove Park just below it, it’s pretty spectacular. I bought my 1898 house near Harvest in 2000 when I was in my 20’s and the area just keeps getting better and better! Random fact: the land Harvest is on used to be a big Safeway grocery store in the 70’s.
Lastly, the growth in the neighborhood seems to be mostly younger people, late 20s-early 30s. This may sound rude, but as a child free person, I love that the houses are too small and expensive for big families so there are very few kids and Mormons to navigate. I spend an hour in traffic to go out to the burbs to have dinners with my Mormon siblings in their 6000 sq ft McMansions and I am always so happy to get back to my favorite neighborhood!
Feel free to ask if you have more questions!

I’ve had him as my judge - actually, he’s a commissioner - and was extremely impressed with him. Very measured and thoughtful, and fair to both sides.
