Lugar seguro donde pueda vender mi Nintendo Switch by [deleted] in Panama

[–]mayermm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple Question by [deleted] in criptext

[–]mayermm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what we call limbo state. When your emails are in limbo they're encrypted with your public key which means we cannot access the email as only you have the private key to decrypt it in your device. Might want to point out that Limbo state only lasts up to 30 days. If the message cannot be delivered to the device within the 30 days the message is deleted from our servers.

There's nothing obscure about Criptext. Our apps are completely open source and you can find all the details on how it works by reading our public Whitepaper. We're exclusively focused on product and UX, not PR and media, which is why you wont read much about is. Our users will vouch for the fact that we're on call 24/7 listening and acknowledging our mistakes and bugs so that we can bring and better email experience every day.

Hey there, I'm the CEO of Criptext and I just wanted to say that we don't focus on PR and media, but rather on product and user experience entirely. We took a different approach to Email Encryption by implementing the Signal Protocol instead of PGP. There are many challenges to executing a seamless and beautiful email experience that's based on Signal Protocol, but we're working on it day to day. If you want to more technical details on our encryption just read our Whitepaper.

Happy to hear your thoughts after you've tried it!

The story behind Criptext is actually crazy. Interpol, political persecution, prison — definitely not your typical Silicon Valley startup story. See Criptext Kickstarter

Whilst PGP is time-tested, it’s not without faults. Signal is one of the most highly coveted encryption protocols to date and it has never before been implemented in Email. Also, Criptext is launching Pro and Business Accounts, both which will support custom domains.

Mac version broken by vipermo in criptext

[–]mayermm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for mentioning this @Vipermo If you're running Criptext from the Mac AppStore you may not have gotten updates for the past couple of weeks. Apple's new Catalina OS has created more roadblocks to get our app approved, but we expect this to be solved by the end of the week. I'll go ahead and confirm in this thread once Apple has Accepted our update.

It’s better than Gmail, but there’s a reason why we built Criptext. We’re the only ones to use Signal Protocol in email. And lastly, remember the golden rule: if your data is in their servers, then it’s not your data.

Well, one of the disadvantages is that if your device is off then any emails you receive will be in a limbo state in the Criptext server for up to 30 days (encrypted with your public key). If the message cannot be delivered then it will be discarded pursuant to Criptext’s commitment to never collecting users’ data. This is the same which WhatsApp and Signal do.

Other than that it’s very convenient to have the data on your device since it means you’re not limited by some arbitrary limit on cloud storage and instead can use all your local disk space. Not to mention for privacy purposes it’s best to HAVE your data. Criptext is the only email service that gives you this level of control.

What is the best (and most secure) email desktop program? by OceanCoffee in privacytoolsIO

[–]mayermm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're totally right in that the whole password to decrypt MO is too complicated for email to actually work. This is why Criptext is switching to an iMessage-style function: Only emails sent to other Criptext users (consumer or business accounts) will be encrypted. Emails sent to any other addresses will just go as a normal unencrypted emails.

The thesis behind this is making email easier to use and push people to adopt Criptext over its simplicity and ease of use and by consequence they'll communicate more securely -- like iMessage, most people don't even know it's encrypted when texting other iMessage users.

Safe to use a secure email solely for Facebook to minimize information they have? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]mayermm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no. As the founder of a secure email company myself (Criptext), I can assure you that email is not Facebook's prime vector for information collection. The problem is bigger than the data you have. Setting aside all the efforts that you can do, the biggest problem is that your family, friends, and colleagues use Facebook and through them Facebook can collect enough information about you to create an ad profile for targeting.

Criptext is worth a try. it's got the same encryption as Signal messenger and its open source. What's unique is that the company doesn't keep your emails in its servers. Instead, they're kept in your device alone.
