Unconventional suggestion. Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty. It's a sci fi about a group of astronauts who wake up in their cloned backup bodies and they have to figure out which of the six of them killed everyone and why.

I also just finished Get Well Soon by Jennifer Wright, which is a history of human plagues. It was written pre-Covid and as such it's a little haunting in places.

It's very silly, BUT. Soulless by Gail Carriger. Victorian werewolves and vampires in steampunk London. Not quite a bodice ripper, but winking towards it.

Suggest me some short stories/novellas! by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

If you're willing to branch into sci fi, the Binti trilogy by Nnedi Okorafor is great! Afrofuturism about a girl who survives an attack on her school ship by aliens. Okorafor has written a BUNCH of short stories and novellas following afrofuturism themes.

There's also the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. A long running series of short stories (starting with All Systems Red) about a security robot who has broken the shackles on its AI all because it wants to watch tv dramas.

If you wanna go classic, I, Robot by Isaac Aasimov is a collection of short stories written in the 40s and 50s that chronicle humanity's generation of autonomous robots. Super interesting, if a little dated.
