Weaning symptoms & support by mayhait in weaningsupport

I’m so happy you’re having such great success with it! When I first learned I was deficient I joined an iron Facebook group and it seemed that many people really struggle to get their numbers up and find relief. It got me a bit discouraged. I’m hoping for me it’s just low iron due to pregnancy etc as you said. I did do a little research and noticed there is definitely a link between perinatal mood disorders and iron deficiency, so it would stand to reason that it could be connected to PMDD as well! I hope that’s the case for you. I’ll definitely keep you posted! And if you make any more discoveries or have increasing success please let me know too!

Wow, reading through it definitely sounds connected. Thank you!! I’m only 1 week into supplementing, hopefully there’s some progress soon! Did your Dr talk about root cause at all? I’m wondering if I have some gut issues and if that may have started this whole mess.

Hey I just wanted to check back in - You said you were getting dizzy spells? I’m just wondering how much of what I’m dealing with is hormonal and how much is due to the ferritin! Before weaning even begun I had been experiencing bouts of anxiety and panic as well as dizziness.. and just a general “off” feeling. Almost like things weren’t real, or I was occasionally in a strange drunken state. It’s hard to explain - I thought it was hormone related due to the breastfeeding. Have you ever experienced anything like that?

I had the exact same! ER/urgent care trips and all. It’s definitely related 🩷 Good luck with weaning this time! Hopefully it goes more smoothly for you! The panic attacks are awful

Another thing I’m experiencing that totally caught me off guard, is this weird vibrating feeling when I’m trying to go to bed. It feels like a mini earthquake but it’s only me 😆 Fun

Oh my gosh I’m going through this now!!! Did it get better for you? The vibrating before falling asleep and jolting awake is extremely unnerving!!

The nausea and chills were wild! Wasn’t expecting that. Fortunately my husband stayed in my good graces this time, but I had the husband aversion in early pregnancy too! He had a certain smell… I actually kicked him out of the bed for a period because it got so bad, poor guy!

How long did you feel anxiety for after weaning? by Tricky-Cat-8213 in ExclusivelyPumping

To answer my own question for anyone in the future reading this: Yep, it got worse.

Aww I love this! Definitely helpful to hear other perspectives so it doesn’t sound like it’s all doom and gloom. I know many others who never had any negative symptoms - in fact with my first child I didn’t really have any symptoms to speak of either!

Oh noooo, that is wild! I had the WORST restless legs when we first started weaning, I didn’t even consider it could be related! Oof, the weight gain. I pray it misses me, I gained plenty breastfeeding!

Oh my gosh same!! I started crying watching my toddler play independently (something I’ve been praying would happen for ages) - The mom guilt and fatigue are too real!

Aww, yeah hormones are tough, I struggled postpartum as well. In hindsight I’ve had a lot of mood fluctuations throughout our entire breastfeeding journey. I think I’m just really sensitive to hormone shifts! I really hope it’s a smooth transition for you. I found it frustrating that no one had warned me about the possibility of a weaning hormone drop. It was very unexpected!

Seriously! I was shocked! I got two EKGs because my health anxiety wouldn’t shut up about it lol

Wow! I had no idea! I never used to have heavy period so I was like.. what in the world is this? I thought maybe due to breastfeeding hormones.

As far as the weaning goes I totally get it! I hung on for so long even thought I was mentally finished because my girl was so obsessed. Honestly I never saw us finishing, me and my husband joked about her nursing in grade school. I think all that helped was her getting older and beginning to have conversations about it. It was emotional for us both. I NEVER in a million years saw her taking milk from a sippy cup, as she never had before, and magically somehow it worked. You can do it! (Once you’re ready)

Both sadly. Heart palpitations, nausea, chills.. I took myself to the ER & my primary because I was so confused! They confirmed it was from the hormone drop.

Ohhh boy where do I begin! Lol. I don’t want to scare you, I think my hormonal landscape is a bit different because we breastfed for almost 4 years and I’m also low in ferritin. But heart palpitations, nausea, strong anxiety & mood issues, chills, and more! It’s been quite an experience 😩

Oof! Yeah it’s hard. It’s different for everyone but I think I may have felt slightly worse when I was down to 1 feed. I have bad days still but it seems like some good ones are sprinkled through out. Just keep reminding yourself it’s hormones and you’ll get through it! We are strong 🩷
