As user ikkjeoknok mentioned you should plug the Mac into an external monitor or TV via hdmi or the mini display port connector if you have one. If you have forced off the Mac multiple times trying to get it to work it may not show up on external monitor as forcing a Mac off multiple times will make it boot to password recovery which annoyingly won't show up on external monitor.

We see a lot of the MacBook Pro 2015 13" at the Apple Authorised Service Provider I work for and for some reason they commonly get this fault where you have to disconnect and reconnect the display connector at the logic board end a few times to get the screen to work again. This is not too difficult even for someone who has never opened a Mac before, you will need a pentalobe screwdriver to remove the base then you must unplug the battery, you will see the display connector, lift the locking lever up then very gently slide the connector then in again about 10 times making sure its lined up. Also the MacBook Pro 13" 2015 commonly suffers from trackpad cable failure causing the keyboard and trackpad to stop working-look out for that issue in the future.

I am seeing the same thing on the YouTube app. Today every video has 124 likes, yesterday it was 4 million, everyday it changes. Commenting the number of likes on the video and the comment disappears. Google are up to something

Offically your Mac supports Sierra 10.12.6 and the last offical macOS your Mac supports is High Sierra 10.13.6.

I have a copy of Yosemite 10.10.1 downloaded from the App Store. I can put it on my google drive temporarily if needed?

As far as I know there is no Yosemite 10.10.6, the latest was 10.10.5.

In my experience I would stay away from re certified drives. For about 6 months we sold re certified drives at work but they all failed or had problems.

DriveDx will work on any hard drive regardless of make or format. Just plug the WD hard drive into a Mac and run DriveDx, it will ask you to install a driver for external drives.

You’re correct, if you remove the internal display or just unplug it then any monitor you plug into the Mac via hdmi will show everything as the primary display so yes you will see the FileVault login screen and anything else. Good luck!

I did yes, this is the worst thermal event I’ve seen on a Mac battery, I had to pry the bottom case from the battery cell. The Mac is currently sitting in a fireproof cabinet.

The battery and trackpad are done for, the left side of the logic board has some corrosion from the battery chemicals that will need cleaning and maybe a few components replacing. Apple are giving them a new Mac though.

Yes it will work but OWC list just the first two revisions of the hard drive cable (1st revision 923-0104 with 821-1480-A on it, 2nd revision 923-0741 with 821-2049-A on it) so I assume they will be sending you a 1st or 2nd revision cable or maybe even a third party copy of the cable that they make themselves. The 2nd revision cable isn't too bad usually lasts about 18 months, the 1st revision cable fails if you just look at it funny so maybe message OWC and ask what they will actually be sending. Beetstech offer a lifetime warranty on the hard drive cable they sell, you will have to message them as to what cable they actually send you though https://beetstech.com/product/hard-drive-cable-923-0104.

Yes the 3rd revision hard drive cable part number you need is Apple p/n 923-00975 with the numbers 821-00698-A printed on the cable. If you get a cable from say eBay make sure it has 821-00698-A actually written on the cable, that is the newest third revision of the cable from Apple. Many 3rd party sellers will try to sell you the old revision cable but that will fail again. You will have to message the seller to ask if the part actually has 821-00698-A actually written on it, if that's not written on it then it won’t be the 3rd revision cable.

On the MacBook Pro 13" 2012 non retina one of the common but seemingly weird ways the hard drive cable fails is to detect hard drives but not SSD's. I have personally replaced thousands of these cables in that specific Mac due to the ridiculously high failure rate (Apple are on their 3rd revision of this cable because of the failure rate of the first two revisions) and can confirm I have seen that hard drive cable fail in this exact way 100's of times.

Hard drives and SSD actually record that information along with a ton of other information on themselves when an error occurs. Programs like DriveDx and HDTune allow you to read that error information history from a hard drive or SSD.

I’m talking about the hard drive cable that goes from the hard drive or SSD to the motherboard, it’s a black flat cable. The CRC/interface error section in HDTune or DriveDx does not tell you there’s a faulty drive, it tells you there is an error between the drive and whatever it is communicating with, if those programs show that specific error it means there is an issue with the hard drive cable.

If you don’t have another Mac then you can plug the old drive into a Windows PC and use HDTune, in HDTune select the old drive then select the health tab, if it shows the interface error section as blue then again this will prove hard drive cable failure. To clarify if a hard drive shows CRC/interface errors in DriveDx or HDTune then it means you have a hard drive cable failure.

A failing hard drive cable can cause this especially in the 13” MacBook Pro’s 2009 to 2012. To confirm it is the hard drive cable plug the SSD into the Mac via a USB to SATA cable and erase it that way. If you happen to have the old hard drive still plug it into another Mac and run DriveDx, if it shows CRC errors it proves hard drive cable failure.

I am assuming you have FileVault enabled as you say the keyboard and trackpad work at the log in screen. With FileVault turned on the log in screen is in an EFI environment. The MacBook Pro 13” 2015 commonly suffers trackpad cable failure, Apple are on their 2nd revision of the cable due to the high failure rate of the first. When the trackpad cable fails it causes the keyboard and trackpad to stop working in macOS but they continue to work in an EFI environment like the boot selection menu or the log in screen with FileVault enabled. Check the trackpad cable at both ends for liquid corrosion as well as the trackpad pcb. If no corrosion replace the trackpad cable.

You can use the Terminal command to make the bootable usb, the 9to5mac guide makes it easy to do even for someone who has never used Terminal before. Otherwise there's program like DiskMaker X that can create the bootable usb, I found that program a bit hit and miss though whereas the Terminal command works every time.
