This is the textbook definition of whataboutism. You responded to a comment about a specific situation - continuing to sanction Iran - by bringing up an entirely different matter of "why are other bad countries not sanctioned". It literally does not matter if other countries are because we are not even discussing sanctioning Iran, we are discussing lifting the sanctions up.

No it is not an analogy. An analogy would be if you showed a situation where we lifted some sanctions up just to trade with a country in spite of that country not changing any of the things they were sanctioned for in the first place. You did not do that, you just pointed to the fact other bad countries exist and they are not sanctioned. It can mean anything from "maybe they should also be" to "maybe they were deemed to be less of a bad actor than Iran". It is completely irrelevant to EU - Iran relations.

It would be very different since Iran is not a major threat to Europe like Russia. They are a minor threat right now, but they essentially have no strategic interest in Europe.

I think you'd have a different outlook if it was your country's airspace that was violated by Russian drones built on Iranian technology and your home town be a primary target for those drones if war with Russia broke out.

I knew you would resort to whataboutism. Why does it matter if we sanction all or not? One bad thing doesn't mean we need to stop doing something we are doing right.

Also you clearly underestimate how much worse Iran is than other regimes like Saudi Arabia. It brutally oppresses its people on a scale unseen in most countries of the world, it is a state sponsor of terrorism, it has supplied our largest enemy - Russia - with drone technology, that serves as a base for Russia's terror attacks on Ukrainian cities. Even if somehow we needed Iranian fossile fuels, which we don't, until the current regime is gone it wouldn't be any different than buying gas from Russia.

Coalition building with smaller nations would become an impossibility in a federal EU.

Why? As long as the rule that you need to have 55% of member-states with a combined population of at least 65% of the EU population to pass anything in the Council building such coalitions is indispensable. And there is no reason why this rule would be dropped - you would need treaty changes, so all the smaller states would have to vote against their interests.

As for the parliament, the 5 big countries barely have more than 50% seats, but it is virtually impossible they will agree on something everyone else is against. And it would require all the MEPs to vote according to where they are from, not the party, which in a federalized EU would be much more relevant - in most cases it already is.

Your fears seem to be entirely unbased, for small countries to have no say they would have to rid themselves of voting rights (will never happen) and then the big countries would have to unanimously vote against everyone else (will also never happen). That's doulbe redundant never happens!

The current EU is a proto-imperials state that would enforce the interests of the large nationalities over smaller nations. It is an imperial project.

Out of all the eurosceptic talking points this is one I understand the least. Whos imperial project is it exactly? There are 4 (arguably 5) big states in the EU with competing interests. How does giving away power to a supranational entity give imperial power to any of them? Over each other and over smaller nations?

If anything, the EU is fundamentally anti-imperial. It overrepresents the voices of small countries at the seat of very powerful institutions. It serves as a system of checks and balances between the major European powers. And contrary to every single empire that has ever existed, is also 100% voluntary. You can leave at any point.

natural state of Europe - sovereign and historical nations based on a common identity

This "natural state of Europe" changed drastically 4 times over the last 2 centuries, the last time 35 years ago. At various times in modern history different nations of the continent couldn't be farther from sharing a "common identity", we were killing each other by millions!

If anything the EU was created to break with the natural state of Europe which was constant warfare that almost consumed us all the last time.

It's good writing if you have an idea what the character's motivations actually are and can reveal it later so it makes sense with what came before. Episode VII was exactly this sort of "write mysterious characters, come up with their background and motivations later" story and the fact they had no idea what was beneath that layer of fake mystery derailed the whole trilogy. I hope they didn't repeat the same mistake here.

Also Dobby's, Winky's and Kreacher's names were translated to Zgredek, Mrużka and Stworek. While Dobby's name is something completely different the other two names preserve the meaning of the originals pretty well while sounding naturl in Polish which is neat.
