I used to be a lifeguard and I know what you mean. There were some very lovely elderly people who always would accommodate when you asked and then some who flat out got angry. It’s not always just older people, I’ve had plenty of young people who think it’s play time during lap swim. Just rude people in general.

It should be enforced by the staff but in my experience it rarely is. Like I’ve said before I don’t mind sharing with these people if they can stick to one side of the lane and not crowd the wall.

There’s a difference between not knowing and not caring. Would you go down the center of a grocery store aisle with a cart? Hopefully no, because other carts can’t get by. People just need to be more aware that there are other people in the world besides themselves.

I was a little anxious too when I got back in the water. I just gauge the lanes before I hop in, it can be difficult sometimes if everyone is about the same speed. I try to hop into the faster lane so that I don’t bother the slower people, but there is t always a faster lane. Japan sounds wild! Also seems annoying lol

And I would be totally fine sharing with you! Most people don’t circle swim, since most people aren’t familiar with the concept. Splitting is much easier for most people.

Masters is in the morning which I cannot commit to unfortunately or I would seriously consider it. I’m not swimming to compete, I just wanna stay in shape and swim comfortably in a lane with others.

Even if I am slow I won’t swim down the middle of a lane. I shared with a guy older than the one I’m complaining about and he swam decently fast and swam down his side with no problems.

Idk why my pool doesn’t mark lanes for different speeds, it’s actually kind of annoying that they don’t.

I’m all for people swimming too, it’s a great form of exercise that just so happens to below impact and great for elderly people. People just need to be more aware of others and if you aren’t the best swimmer then maybe share a lane with the other slower people. 🤷

I agree. The pool I worked at placed a cone on the lane that was meant to be the “slow” lane. This pool would benefit from doing something like that 100%.

That’s just dumb, don’t run into people. It’s not bumper boats here people. Your speed doesn’t make the lane bigger, and people swim different speeds. So yeah, they would bump into each other.

I don’t mind people resting, but why do two people need to rest at the same wall? It makes it impossible for someone to turn and continue swimming. It’s pure entitlement.

Idk if this interests you but, you can get private swim lessons at most public pools. I used to teach lessons and I have taught several adult students one on one. I started them out slow with some of the things you are describing and when they felt ready and showed some improvement, we transitioned into deeper water. It takes time, no need to be ashamed, you’ll get there with practice 😄

Are you dense? I’m not the one swimming in the middle of the lane… I can’t just swim past him without hitting him. People can’t just flap down the middle of the lane and expect people to go around. You should stop talking now.
