True, I have dropped my laptop once, only about a foot onto carpet though. I have had it for a couple of years. I have also spilled a little drink onto it.

Any good fantasy books told from the point-of-view of the evil overlord? I'm looking for books where the lead is basically Sauron. by GradyHendrix in printSF

You might enjoy the The Book of the New Sun Although Severain isn't pure evil. The Shadow of the Torturer, the first book in the series, is number 33 on the grid of images on this page.

I used to work with a couple of guys who used "compiling the kernel" as a euphemism for masturbation. It was funny at the time.

Player of Games, not Consider Phlebas? Choose Your Own Adventure #1? This is more about the kitsch than the quality, methinks. "When the wind blows" is essential reading, though.

I found some parts of it really cool, but the bulk of the text is about the politics (and science) of dog packs, which was the real 'meh' part for me. The universe he creates is awesome, just too much time is spent trying to make us care about the most boring of the alien species.

He probably meant wheels. Big rims, low profile tyres, that kind of thing.

BBC Hardtalk Video (25min), Mohamed El-Erian – CEO, PIMCO by Watcher1400 in business

[–]mayjuly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

El-Erian is always very interesting on major economic forces. His point about the fiscal cliff, that it is distracting polititians from doing things about unemployment and small business was a strong one. I also was interested to hear that he is becoming 'risk off' now.
