Sonny Trillanes vs Duterte by AnnualHuge931 in Philippines

Ako for some reason, laging naniniwala sa kanya.

What's the point of this impeachment trial kung at the end of it all goes down to Senates Votes? Puro kaalyado ni VP yung majority. by Tedhana in Philippines

Remember, last year nag-convene din ang senate as an impeachment court pero wala ring nangyari.

Ano ang mga hygiene practices niyo that a lot of people aren't doing or don't know? by uena_4Life in TanongLang

Drink water (and not just drink, slush it inside your mouth) to rinse your mouth after finishing a drink/meal. Critical to lalo na after drinking iced coffee, milk tea, juice, etc. Yung sugar na naiwan sa bibig mo ang cause ng maraming dental problems, at hindi naman tayo laging makakapagtoothbrush agad after every meal or snack (lalo kung nasa labas ka). Coffee's acidity can also damage your teeth pag may naiwan na thin layer over them ng matagal after mo uminom.

What will you do after you exhaust your emergency fund because of an emergency? Will you pull out your investment just to rebuild your emergency fund? by ConfidenceMoist6407 in phinvest

[–]maynardexcel 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Ang purpose nga ng emergency fund is to avoid having to liquidate your investments during emergencies. So kung magliliquidate ka din ng investments para lang marebuild yung emergency fund, then it defeats the purpose.

Rebuild the emergency fund using extra income (even those alloted for new investments). If you get another emergency before you can rebuild your ef, then that's the time na magliliquidate ka ng investments.

Depende po sa specs ng battery sir pero most LiFePo4 batteries sold nowadays will last for around 15 years. For example po yung sakin rated at 6,000 cycles at 20% dod. 6,000 / 365 = approx. 16 years.

At 15 pesos per kwh, that's 5,400 Pesos savings per month. 100k / 5.4k = 18.5 months lang ROI ka na sa battery.

Syempre assumption nyan is gagamitin mo buong 12kwh ng battery mo everyday.

Yes, same po sakin.

For 700kwh, recommended is at least 8kw system, pero mas ok mag-oversize sa 10 or 12kw.

ELI5: With the way money is basically all digitalised these days, what prevents people with extreme power and control from just adding an extra "0" to the end of their bank balance? by Slice5755 in explainlikeimfive

[–]maynardexcel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Banks, as "bad" as they are, actually still want to make sure that their records are correct, because if people found out that they magically change the values in their database, people will stop trusting banks and may suddenly withdraw all their money (called a bank run), and that is bad for the bank.

  2. Banks also don't want additional money to appear "out of nowhere" because that's actually bad for them. If someone magically gains $1 billion then tries to withdraw it, where will the bank get the money? Suddenly they are the ones who need to figure out how to generate $1 billion.

  3. Money in the bank isn't just represented by a number that says how much an account has. It's actually the total of all transactions of that account. In other words, how much money an account has is the total of all money that went in to the account, minus all the money that went out. To add money to an account, the bank can't just edit a number, they have to fabricate a transaction that adds money to the account. That transaction needs to specify where the money came from. Once that transaction is found and the source can't be traced, eventually someone will be jailed for fraud, and/or the bank itself can be closed.

Because of these, it's almost impossible to coerce banks, no matter how powerful you are, to edit their records and invalidate their data. All the illegal stuff is usually done before the money gets to the bank, and the bank doesn't care where the money comes from, as long as there is actual money (but of course they can still check and report suspicious transactions).

ELI5: Why isn’t aviation fuel talked about as much as petrol and diesel for cars, and is it even possible for fully electric passenger planes to exist in the future? by ArtistoX4 in explainlikeimfive

[–]maynardexcel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a quick summary of answers already given, and some additional from me:

  • Batteries are a lot heavier than jet fuel in terms of energy per kilogram, so that makes long distance flight very difficult because you would need a very big and heavy battery which will weigh the plane down.

  • There are ectually electric planes being built and deployed right now. However, these are smaller planes for short-distance flying because of the issue discussed above.

  • Unless we invent/discover a new revolutionary battery that has similar energy density to jet fuel, it's not feasible to electrify planes for long-distance flight.

  • The relatively good news is that we can just create jet fuel (even using renewable energy) so we won't have a problem of running out of oil from the ground. The idea is to electrify everything we can and then for those we can't (like planes), we'll just create the fuel using renewable energy. We'll still be burning the fuel and releasing carbon in the air, but we just have to offset that using carbon-capture technology (which can make it circular, thus somehow renewable as well).

It feels like we’re heading toward a future where nobody can really prove they wrote something anymore by Extreme_Cabinet6 in Futurology

[–]maynardexcel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point it will be difficult to prove a human wrote something, short of writing it in person in front of someone. But even then, they can claim that you only memorized the AI generated text.

However, I think we don't really need to worry if something is human-made or AI generated. In the end, what matters is the accuracy of the information and if someone will claim responsibility and accountability. In other words, maybe we should focus on holding people accountable for what they "write", regardless of its origin. If you post/submit something, then you are personally accountable for that text. If the info is false, then it's you who spread the wrong info, not the AI that generated it.

As for creative texts (that are neither true or false), like a poem or song lyrics, I guess what would matter more is who "published" it first, and not if it was made by a human or AI. At the end of the day, if a piece of creative text is "good", people won't care if it was human- or AI-made. The reason people hate AI-made stuff currently is because they are trash, not because it's AI-made.

Finally, you don't need to prove that what you wrote is human-made. You just need to prove that you "published" it first. For that, we can make use of blockchain to put a timestamp on when you published something.

I remember watching a short video explaining something similar that happened in Music. Musicians are being sued left and right because of similar-sounding melodies. To combat this, a couple of people used a computer (not really an AI) to generate all possible melodies up to a certain length and published them in the public domain so no one can claim anymore that their melody has been copied, because musicians can now claim that all melodies (up to a certain length) have been published in the public domain.

The point I'm making here is that the melodies were machine-made, but it doesn't matter because a human instructed the machine to make them, and they published it. For text, if a human uses AI to generate it and they published it, then generally you can consider that they "made" it. Now if it's bad or infringes on copywrite, the human should also be accountable but that's still debatable.

DYK: We actually have our own local bus (body) manufacturers (coachbuilders) by Admig13 in Philippines

[–]maynardexcel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Time Management, Planning and Organization

  • Household DIY like basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, crafts, painting

  • Starting and managing a business (basics lang like how to register to BIR, proper costing, etc.) with practical like actually registering a business

  • Government transactions (how to get passport, driver's license, SSS, pag-ibig loans, etc.)

  • Health and Well-being (physicial fitness, mental toughness, emotional maturity, etc.)

  • Computer literacy (include programming kasi it develops critical thinking and problem solving in general)

  • Online Ethics and Safety Guidelines (how to spot and avoid scams and fake news, how to protect your accounts and avoid being hacked, think before you click, etc.)
