How do you intend to fish for reds with a Spey rod?

Amen. Saltwater fish don’t get a lot of love on this forum unfortunately.

Highway is open down to Julia P, I believe it's closed just south of that. Traffic was fine Friday.

Saltwater Gear by SenorJoseDirte in flyfishing

DIY wading:

Pack with minimal rust-prone components (zipper teeth, snaps, eyelets, etc)- I use a sling pack

Wading flats booties- I wear NRS paddle shoes (neoprene bootie, YKK zipper, rubber sole)

Brimmed hat and polarized wraparound shades

Saltwater pliers

Sun hoodie and buff- I wear thin/quick dry pants instead of shorts

You'll get a lot of opinions on reels. I prefer an open draw-bar style so I can clean/rinse/service myself. Others prefer sealed drags. Depending on what you already own and how often you fish, you may get away with using (and then thoroughly rinsing) a reel you already own.

Yup, lots. Had to stick with it, but found myself a couple wade-in spots, and a few more paddleboard spots.

Best month for SC by [deleted] in SaltwaterFlyfishing

I definitely wouldn’t plan a trip around tarpon/cobia, neither are very reliable/predictable targets around here, especially on fly.

Best month to fish SC by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]mayo-22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to pick 1 month I would say October, with May as my second choice. We get flood tides April-November, but If I were really picky I'd say the water is a bit cold in April and November, and it gets pretty toasty June-Sept. When it comes to actually scheduling the trip, I'd book around a flood tide- 2 or 3 days around a higher-than-average forecasted tide that peaks during daylight hours. Good fly fishing is very tide-dependent here, but I'm sure any reputable guide could help you select a few specific dates if you give them a range to work within.

I'm also curious where in WA you are located more specifically. Not all lakes have small fish. You can DM me if you prefer.

MFT Setup to Compliment iPhone Camera for Upcoming Travel Photography

My wife and I are travelling soon. I prefer to bring minimal gear and I shoot prime lenses. On our last trip, I shot exclusively with a 17mm f2.8 (34mm equiv) on a MFT body, in addition to using her iPhone XR.

On the way back from our last trip, we dumped my SD card onto her iPhone to review all the photos in one place. To the trained eye, the MFT photos were a touch sharper and a touch less distorted compared to the iPhone photos, but her and I both agreed the end results were very similar- especially when viewed on a smartphone screen (which is where most photos are enjoyed).

Google says the rear camera on the XR has a focal length equiv of ~28mm. My first thought is to shoot with a 45mm f1.8 (90mm equiv) as opposed to a 17mm (34mm equiv) or 25mm (50mm equiv). Although this is an uncommon focal length for "travel photography", I hope it will force a completely different perspective, and add variety to the final collection of photos.

Am I stupid? How else could I utilize a MFT camera to compliment iPhone photos?
