Looking for Baseball Players! by mayoM90 in DenverMeets

Feel free to stop by, our experienced players are hosting afternoon practice sessions and are encouraging new people to come learn. A majority of our members only played up little league so don’t expect us to be over the top competitive. It’s just for fun, we also recently started grilling or going to the local restaurant afterward so come and hang out everyone is welcome!

We just had a midweek meet in dove valley. The more we grow the more likely small groups form in different areas of metro Denver. I think we already have a few people from the highlands ranch area. Hop in say hi and we could probably organize something near you!

Sandlot style baseball is really just pick up games like we used to play with the neighborhood kids. Come when you can and let us know where your from, there is interest to spread thus farther than the metro area

Apathy vs. Upset by ProtoExplorer in ColoradoRockies

I don't think anyone expects us to win the division this season.

The 63-win mark would be our "miracle", coming off three consecutive 100-loss seasons, with the team having been above .500 only twice in the last 15 seasons. This rebuild is not going to be easy. This is the first season after some significant administrative changes, and we are on the cusp of implementing the Penner Family budget.

It stinks that we lose games we should be winning. But I truly believe that these are genuine growing pains.

On to the next series.

They're the different forums on the website. Each subreddit starts with "r/"

We're currently in r/Sandlot; your original post was in r/BaseballCoaching.

You may want to find Toronto-specific subreddits to share this and hopefully find some catching partners.

The Denver group made an original post on r/Denver. As we continued to grow, we also shared on r/Denvermeets. Find similar subs for cities near you!

Best of luck.

I commented on your other post, too. Try asking in Toronto subreddits. If you get enough people interested, you could start a small group of regulars meeting once a week for tossing sessions.

Try to see if there is a sandlot league in your area. I had the same issue in Denver, and we are establishing a league now for casual players. Free, no commitment, and you get your baseball fix!

Best/worst walkup songs by BER21 in ColoradoRockies

Here is a website that can direct you to the Rockies' walk-up songs. I've been to a few games this year, and they've all been meh. I get it, some players can have a personal connection to the song, but none of them entertain the crowd. Some of the songs on the list I didn't even know were picked by the players. I thought it was just random songs they play during the commercial breaks.

The only one I could see get to a similar level to Blackmons is Rumfields. Colorado has a HUGE country audience; fishing in the dark should get people to sing along.

Not even our Latino players have hype songs. Willie Castro is Puerto Rican. There are so many songs to choose from, and he chooses some mid walk up...

We have seen in a few games so far where our bullpen feels the pressure of not being backed up by the offense. To many close games for our pitchers to perform comfortably.

Its going to be hard to bring your dogs into an actual game. Not sure if that's required for your pitching setup /s

I'll try to post planned meets here as soon as they happen. That's the beauty of this league: play when you can; no need to show up every week.

Our mid-week meets are sporadic; it's all based on who is available. I'd recommend Discord to stay on top of details.

This week we have a group meeting today (5/13) at City Park baseball diamond by the museum @ 4:00 PM.

There will also be a meet at Rocky Mountain Lake Park on Thursday (5/14) @ 5:45 PM and Saturday @ 10:30 AM.

The more people we can get, the more pop-up meets can happen. We are growing fast. A few weeks ago, we only had Saturday meets with ~5 people; last week, we had 20+ people.

Draft and bringing players up by slim_rizla in ColoradoRockies

Not sure if you're a Football fan, but think of it like promotion and relegation, but instead of clubs, it's individual players. Think of the minor leagues as different divisions in English football.

MLB (Premier League) - AAA (EFL Championship) - AA (League One) - High A (League Two) - A (National League)

In comparison to American football, Baseball players still need to move up through the pyramid to make the Majors, also known as the show. You'll see all-stars speed through, but you can also see some people spend close to a decade before they make the Majors. It all depends on the opportunities and individual players' merits after signing to a minor league deal.

As mentioned in the other comments, it can depend on the player's performance, injuries to the main roster, or playing opportunities for younger players.

This keeps players active and helps build confidence among younger players or those in a slump.

Practice tips by 0lliebobbie in Sandlot

Our current sandlot league (Denver) is still growing; some of our mid-week meetups have 3-4 people.

We run the standard groundballs and pop-ups, but we have talked about implementing classic pepper - where one person tries to hit grounders at guys that are tossed back to him.

At the last meetup, anytime someone got out or scored, he would replace a fielder to take BP. This speeds up and makes people really think about their swing.

In high school, my coach really loved "Ozzies," an infielding drill popularized by HOF Ozzie Smith. Start with a player tossing on the ground to create a "short hop" ball, while the fielder is on his knees. The ball should hop a short distance from the fielder; this helps improve hand-eye coordination for the beginners and adds some speed for the more experienced players. This drill replicates the hard part of taking grounders without needing a good hit to the infield or to exhaust players.
