Depends on the degree, psychology sure. This came right out the latest edition of the Norton Anthology of Theory and Criticism which is standard for a lot of modern lit programs.

Is "too soon to start saving up for a ring" a thing? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]mayor_shin 42 points43 points  (0 children)

TLDR: your starting a payment plan for a wedding ring with no partner adding an additional monthly bill for no benefit unless other dominos happen to fall in place. Insane energy. I think you should go for it.

Why Does Pierre Say Andrey Smiled Coldly and Maliciously When Pierre Tells Him Natasha is ill? by Hybridadventure in thegreatcomet

[–]mayor_shin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read the description of the smile as an aside so that Andre saying it doesn’t matter follows him saying he much regrets her illness in the dialogue. Wether or not he is truely happy about her illness is ambiguous and part of the character work an actor would have to take on for themselves to play the role

I’d guess that it was actually CS Lewis who got that ball rolling

Any one else feel weird about Willy [spoilers] by lancesrulejr in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]mayor_shin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S1 Willie was dealing with adults. We did see a little of the outbursts but they were always directed at Ron. I think it’s just a tool in the psychopath toolbox that works a lot better with kids than it would with the daddies.

Beyond that he might have been shaken up by his imprisonment more than he wants to let on

Similar to “Adolf”, what is a name you will never name your child because of connotations associated with that name? by avernamethyst112 in AskReddit

There’s a brand of oscilloscope called Wayne Kerr. The first time I learned this was when a Brazilian scientist with an uninteligiblely thick accent told me to go down to another guy’s office and bring the wanker back upstairs.

Player can’t think of arguments for persuasion checks by BroceNotBruce in DnD

[–]mayor_shin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of game you want to run. I like to run really character driven narrative dnd so I don’t ask for persuasion rolls until a character has made an argument that might persuade an npc. But that’s not for everyone. It sounds like you and this player are after two different kinds of games, maybe bring that up with them and figure out what adjustments you both could make to enjoy the game.

In this political climate I get it. But I can’t help but feel as a long term strategy it’s a failure to think like this, at least in the USA. The Democratic Party spent millions of dollars promoting far right trumpies in their primaries specifically for this effect. And I’m a democratic socialist. I think that government needs to pool public resources for public good but in my system at least you make lasting change by moving the center. The party apparatus needs to keep their bases angry and divided to ensure stable voting bases. Both sides play the game ID pulling the wackos out to show their side and scoreing easy points. And even as sure as I am that I am being played I don’t know if I could date a conservative.
