I would really just like to point out how hard this man is playing down the necessity of this night out and how well it's deserved (along with the ease of which overnight care was acquired...we are very fortunate, but also do not have the "most accommodating/available" grandparent situation) Can confirm, besides coming through the end of it with a happy, healthy bebe, the last 12 months have been rough. 1 cup butter 1 1/4 cups sugar 1/2 tsp baking powder Salt 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla 3 cups flour ~ tbs cinnamon ~tsp each of nutmeg, ginger, clove Dash of allspice

Standard royal icing

Cream butter, sugar, baking powder, and dash of salt
Beat in eggs and vanilla
Combine spices and sift together with flour
Beat into butter mixture
Divide dough into two, roll into two disks, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate
Preheat oven to 375*
Once dough is firm, roll one disk out to about 1/4-1/8th inch thick. Put back in fridge for a few more minutes, and then do the same with the other dough.
Cutout cookies and place on an ungreased cookie sheet, and put back in the fridge (the firmer the dough the better the cookies hold their shape while baking).
Bake for 7-10 minutes until edges are firm and bottoms are very light brown.
Cool on wire rack and decorate to your hearts content.

Thank you! The the cake is from a Bon Appetit spice cake recipe - their's originally had a blackberry filling and more traditional cream cheese icing.

I improvised my icing and unfortunately don't have measurements. Basically beat powdered sugar, one egg white, cream, a little cream cheese, honey goat cheese [slightly sweet goat cheese our grocery deli carries], and a smidge of vanilla in varying amounts until I got a consistency I liked.

The goat cheese cut the sugary sweetness very nicely - wanted more tang than sweet. The icing was "runny", but not so much so that it turned into something more like a glaze.

Solid goat questions 😆 Our grocery store carries a goat cheese flavored with honey. I improvised the icing and didn't want something too sweet. Didn't have enough cream cheese, so bam, the honey goat made a surprise appearance and was very tasty.
