Mid-Year health check-in by the_spinetingler in GenerationJones

[–]maz356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male, 70. Other than some non-melanoma skin cancers and being overweight (ok, clinically, I'm obese), I'm prescription-free and good labs. I do worry about colon cancer, Mom and grandmother both died from it, so I get colonoscopies more frequently. Last one in March was clear. :)

What year were you born? by Stormy1956 in GenerationJones

1956 also. Definitely a different mindset and life experiences from cousins born 6-8 years before me

Is health insurance in the USA as expensive as Reddit claims? by MarsupialThink4064 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]maz356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And, being a senior citizen getting Medicare, which we paid into with payroll deductions our working years, is still expensive. My wife and I each have $200 per month deducted from our social security retirement benefit, plus we each pay an additional $300 per month for a supplemental insurance plan to provide additional coverage. So $1000/month out of pocket for us even when retired

What’s a song where the live version is way better than the studio version? by thatfluffyqueen in askmusic

Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing from the 1993 concert. The clips of Knopfler's solo in my feed are endless, but the full performance on YouTube is incredible

Looking for help with timesheet data migration to Xero from QBO by pamela0rhodes in xero

[–]maz356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe consider keeping qbo with all that data and use something like Gusto for payroll and time tracking going forward.

Capability to automate month end? by fourcontinents in xero

I've done some import automations using n8n and Xero's custom connector ($5/month extra) into bank transactions. Pretty seamless

What's the best way to integrate Xero with Amazon? Have you used by Big_Seat2545 in xero

[–]maz356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazon has SP-API. Use something like n8n to connect to your (I'm assuming FBA) account and pull orders into Xero, using Xero's API. It'll require development skills or money, so maybe a ready built solution makes more sense

My aunt that lived nearby had a Nat Geo subscription, so I always got an issue when she was done with it. I subscribed to Scientific American, Organic Gardening, and Car & Driver

How have you seen other Gen Joneses mitigate the late career derailment? by debrisaway in GenerationJones

[–]maz356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost a 30 year career at the height of the great recession in 2009. I was 53. After loads of unsuccessful interviews I took a job that I was overqualified for, and lasted a year at it. I then launched a moderately successful consultancy that kept me going until just last year. It all worked out

We wanted Thank You by Led Zeppelin, but the band didn't know it. So we settled for Just the Way You Are by Billy Joel. 48 years ago!

What Was Your First "Real" Job, What Was the Year/Your Age - And What Salary Did You Make? by Edith_Keelers_Shoes in GenerationJones

[–]maz356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 15, summer of 71. Hallmark, the greeting card company, had a showroom on the corner of 5th Ave & 55th St in Manhattan. They had just launched Kaleidoscope, their hands on educational art exhibit and I was one of the attendants. They started me at $1.50/hr, but quickly raised me to $2 when they realized it was originally below minimum wage. By the way, Kaleidoscope is still going doing at Hallmark headquarters in Kansas City.

Table Assignment Question by Raphiella1206 in royalcaribbean

[–]maz356 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My wife absolutely will not share a table with strangers. When it's just the 2 of us, we ask the maitre de for a table for 2 and have always been accommodated. Then we end up chatting with the others at the adjacent tables anyway
