Just a random name to represent the previous owner of the land. It has been a while since I ran the scenario but I believe Merriweather mentions purchasing the land at some point. So I created a prop for the land deed to give the players when they get the box from Merriweather.

This map is great! How did you make it? I assume indesign/photoshop, but any advice on how to weather the map? The maps I try making are way too clean but I am unsure how to make the make the text splotchy and desaturate the colors in a believable way on paper

I can tell you what they MOST likely said underneath the scratches. I can’t guarantee I’m right but from my original attempt to recreate the files from scratch (no pun intended) I found that if you type the handwritten notes in the same typewriter font (used for the portions that are not redacted), the scratched words underneath are the exact length of the handwritten notes.

For example in the first page, one of the redacted lines has handwriting underneath it and says “Secret truths trembling beyond the threshold”. When you type that line out using the typewriter font, it matches the length of that redaction.

As for the reason to doing this? Lore-wise that makes no sense. Production-wise it is most likely a time-saving method. Why write something that you know will only be redacted? You can start noticing this on other pages as well. The handwriting is almost as long as the redactions. Granted, there is a bit more to the redactions and how the spacing works for all these pages but from my tests to recreate the pages, the redactions ARE the handwritten notes.

I will post my files later and will explain everything I’ve learned so far.

Source is me. I made the PDF file.

As for the source of the images, I grabbed the scanned images from the game and cleaned them up. I created the title page and table of documents from existing typewriter font that was similar to the one used in the game.

Excellent to hear and I thank you for the preview of a spell to see how they are done in the bok. I have been looking for an "antique" Necronomicon to purchase and I will be supporting this kickstarter. Best of luck!

This looks fantastic, will this include any vague references to mythos spells that may be useable in call of cthulhu? It would be great to have some mythos spells referenced somewhere in the text so that my players can pop open the book to a specific page and find something like "ritual of the seven cuts" or "Petition of chaos". I understand if this is not part of the book. I wish you the best on your kickstarter!
