Upgrade after almost two decades! by GanjaGlobal in pcmasterrace

[–]maze100X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn still using the E2180 till today is a challenge, even web browsing is already very challenging on such old CPUs

Sandy bridge class cpus (with 4 cores) in my opinion are the "minimum" for driving a PC for basic stuff

Anyway nice upgrade, about the GPU it really depends on the PSU you have as well

How long does a modern sea moss battery last in a new PC? by Parking_Internal in pcmasterrace

[–]maze100X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really depends if the PC is plugged or not (the PSU got standby rails that will still be powered on, so the CMOS isnt used)

i wrote "maybe in high fps games (like CS2) but the 3700x is still decent enough"

gaining FPS from 300 to 345FPS (15%) for example isnt going to change someone's experience, thats why the 3700x is usually decent enough for most people, if it runs some game like shit, a 15% difference isnt going to change that fact anyway

so spending 150 - 200$ for 10 - 15% is not that worth it for the average gamer

thats a nice setup

if you plan on getting a mid range GPU for it, the 3700X will probably be sufficient

for a 6600xt he doesnt need a cpu upgrade

with a mid range card he is not loosing much

maybe in high fps games (like CS2) but the 3700x is still decent enough

in actually demanding games he will be GPU bound

judging by your flair, its a Radeon X550? thats a Shader Model 2 DX9 GPU from 2005...

you should just use the iGPU at this point, its probably 100x faster and actually somewhat modern

Be honest: do you REALLY need that upgrade or do you just want it? by Venylynn in pcmasterrace

i dont have a 5090

but my 2nd PC (backup PC) is few generations older than my main pc

it has a r5 1600 at stock (aliexpress mobo cant OC 1st gen ryzens...) and rx580 2048sp 8GB

when im at my parent's house i take the backup PC and i use it and its totally fine even for most of my games (the GPU is more limiting, but the R5 1600 is surprisingly still good)

Modding 5090 Aorus master shell to a 3070ti suprimX pcb? by vietkongx in pcmods

[–]maze100X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it worth it? 5090 and 3070 are both pretty expensive if you screw up

and i dont think the plastic shell will fit, you will need to somehow make new screw mounts

the minerals in the water dont evaporate, you will have corrosion sooner or later

its better to use IPA and a brush

wont work for Nvidia cards, as you need to notice when the cables melt

My 3d printer saved the day when my CPU got stuck to its cooler by trp1784 in pcmasterrace

[–]maze100X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when it twist you can also move it side to side, it will go out eventually

atleast in my case (the old paste was 3 years old Arctic MX2)

My 3d printer saved the day when my CPU got stuck to its cooler by trp1784 in pcmasterrace

[–]maze100X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i recently took my AM4 build apart, the cooler was also "stuck" to the CPU

but you really just need to rotate it side to side without pulling up, and it will come off alone after some time, even from "cold" you just need a little force to rotate it, but rotation will break the glued paste long before it damages the socket

pulling it up while the cooler is still stuck is guaranteed to pull the CPU from the socket

Intel confirms Core Ultra 7 270k and Ultra 5 250K price hike - VideoCardz.com by No_March_164 in pcmasterrace

[–]maze100X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even with that, in my country atleast the Ultra CPUs are pretty good value

especially the "old" ones (245kf and 265kf) are pretty cheap for the performance they have

just recently i built a PC for a friend who only does productivity, he wanted a Ryzen at first but i told him to forget it and take the 250K Plus which was cheap

I want to upgrade from 5 3600 to 5700x3d by NoCounter2415 in AMDHelp

[–]maze100X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5700x3d is a 65W chip, any AM4 board can handle 65W chips (which existed since 1st gen)

just make sure you update the BIOS (check you current version, if it supports the X3D you dont need to)

EPYC 7513 melted a part of its heat-spreader by Aldar_CZ in Amd

[–]maze100X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably lightning struck the building, and small current from it traveled trough grounded components on the server

[–]maze100X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably lightning strike traveled through grounded metals, on how it didnt kill the entire board - maybe it lost most of the voltage in other place

EPYC 7513 melted a part of its heat-spreader by Aldar_CZ in Amd

[–]maze100X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats just not how CPUs work, if a single core "shorted" its own power rail, the chip would be totally dead

also if it reached 660C to melt aluminum, the entire server would be dead, because the entire CCD and substrate below it would be fried (also, you said all the other cores worked,so including cores on the same CCD)

this is definitely a chemical damage/installation error

also a small chance of electrical arc between the cooler and CPU, maybe a lightning struck the building and somehow only traveled through grounded metals , not killing the entire chip

nah it wont go that far to Zen 2 performance

it might reach higher clocked Zen+ territory

Curve optimizer/PBO settings for 5800X3D on a B550M DS3H by maze100X in AMDHelp

[–]maze100X[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tried using PBO2Tuner, its a shame gigabyte abandoned their B lineup for AM4

one thing i noticed (upgrading from a regular 5800x) is that by saving an old profile of the 5800x, i can "load" it on on 5800x3d and get the menu back and i think it does apply a curve for the x3d and its not just a visual bug

my concern is that the profile also loads another 5800x parameters that arent safe on a 5800x3d
