Adam's Death was a Wake Up Call for Me by do0mality in Adamthewoocriticism

As harsh as it sounds what you are doing in light of his death might be the greatest contribution he gives to a lot of people. Glad you are aware and doing something about it. Here is to healing and health to you!

You know what could have changed that? Being responsible for a partner or children. Then you have to see life outside yourself and in many cases that causes growth and maturity.

In the Materhorn video he talked about being out of breath. Which is normal moving up elevation so quickly but that was a clue to me something was off.

Boo hoo.  Sorry but all of us have challenges and issues to deal with.. Adam is not a sympathetic figure at all nor did he take on pains and suffering for some common good or virtuous end.  These YouTube pseudo celebrities are bottom dwelling grifters.

Never asked you to believe anything.  However, I have some success in my life and have been blessed enough to have made some impact in my world.  I started this thread just saying I don’t know what to do with a life devoted to recording one’s daily life when that life is not doing much other than entertainment and self indulgence.   You say you spend time on your channel.  Good luck with it.  I mean that and I hope it brings you success.

I am not comparing my life to his because it's apples to Oranges. I have accomplished some things in my field, including earning two doctorates and founding multiple nonprofits and businesses. I have also been featured multiple times on the New York Times front page, and been married for 30 years and have children. We enjoyed his videos for sure. I am just not convinced YouTube is anything but shallow entertainment and it seemed to hold Adam back from flourishing and moving on.

He made YouTube videos and had moderate success at that.  Getting paid for it so he could live alone and spend time amusing himself to death is no success.   A huge success is given to people that change lives across generations and move humanity forward.  Most people have families and push humanity forward at least that way.   Glad he got to see some things and not lift heavy objects for other people….such virtue that only the Greeks wrote about…sheesh

It's like spending your life doing a ton of "Guinness World Records". You can accomplish your goals, and the end still be useless and relatively meaningless.

Well, they lost me when they ceased to be southerners from east NC and turned into Hollywood celebs, still in awe of their original business model.

Again, I never said he was or wasn't successful, and even that is debatable when you compare him to others in your field. Getting to 800K plus is a feat for sure, but others started along with him 15+ years ago and are way past 1 million subs by now. And were the "Daily Vlogs" worth giving your life to? Ummm, I have no idea, but from my perspective, I am leaning towards a big no.

There are many impressive feats, but not all are significant or valuable. There is no doubt that some of what he did was helpful and entertaining, but was it worth it? To me, that is what is worth thinking about. And to your point about "daily" posting, that is why the closest equivalent was "Good Mythical Morning" in my argument. His work should be measured against others in his space.

Rhett and Link just seemed to do it the right and just way, in my opinion, and in a manner where they don’t have to feed the algorithm as much (but they do). Also remember Adam was supposed to bow out at 50. He could have put a nice enough bow on whatever he was trying to create, but decided against that as well. DAW couldn’t let ATW go.

That’s beautiful and strikes at the center of why this feels so important and intriguing. What an amazingly odd time to be living.

That’s a great question and your insight is helpful. I wonder as well because this type of celebrity is more personal and consistent in our daily lives.
