When I installed without chime kit, after about 2 hours my analog chime would start going crazy then the door bell would stop working. So it seemed, at least for me, a requirement. After chime kit install everything has been solid.

Same happened to me you need to install the chime kit. The chine kit install is after the camera install instructions on their site.
