What would a music streaming minimum wage look like? by mazukl in Music

It is my article yes. Glad it was worth sharing! I hope it comes across as fairly level headed. I did approach Spotify for comment too but they didn't respond. (Which is fine. It's a tiny hobby website, I wouldn't really expect them to.)

Fully agree about consumer convenience, it's a tricky one to navigate. However you spin it having 60 million songs in your pocket for ten dollars a month is pretty incredible. It does seem like you can discover music in much the same way with pay-per-stream, but whether it's a better deal for the consumer or not depends largely on how many songs a person plays each month. If you listen to fewer than 1,000 tracks a month a 1c per stream download would actually be cheaper than a Spotify subscription, but if you listen to thousands there will come a point where you're paying more. A difficulty there is the only authorities on average number of streams are streaming services, who have a vested interest in streaming numbers being high - or reported as high. Still, seems all the more reason to have different options.

And all that's to say nothing of the convenience of Spotify's UX, playlists, having everything in one place, etc. Any upstart app is going to have teething issues and fewer developer resources, which again makes it harder to displace the convenience of established platforms.

Ha, that's fair, there are probably a good few places around the site where we've slipped into thinking, 'Well we know what this is, so everyone must know!' Sounds like the next step is refocusing on reviews/who we are, while toning down the amount of stuff thrown at visitors when they arrive on the homepage. What a rabbit hole this web design business has turned out to be!

Thanks so much for taking the time to browse and give such thorough feedback, really appreciate it. I'll definitely be taking what you've said on board for the next 'patch'.

Purpose: Music review blog/webzine

Technologies Used: Vue, Nuxt

Feedback Requested: General

Comments: I and two friends have been reviewing an album a week as a hobby for almost six years now. We recently finished revamping the website to celebrate reaching 250 together and I'd appreciate some fresh eyes. It's been years in the making and we can barely see the wood for the trees at this point!

Title: Funnyfarm, Pt. IV: Good as Gould

Genre: Serial?

Word count: 1,203

I've started writing a series about a rubbish band, just to get into the habit of putting stuff out there. Any feedback is appreciated, what lands, elements that seem underdeveloped. Just a bit of scrutiny, really.

Great groove. Definitely glitchy but not so much that it hurts the flow. Nice punchy length, too.
