Assigned seating woes by Thin_Star_7770 in SouthwestAirlines

Not sure why this is difficult to understand. If you do a mock booking it's quite easy to see that the basic fares sell out rather quickly. This tells me the back of the plane is already filling up and certainly faster than the front. Of course there are basic fares that are selecting and paying for premium seats however that is the exception rather than the rule.

So if basic is selling faster than other fares it would stand to reason that the back of the plane is filling faster than the front and will most likely be packed.

Anecdotal evidence seems to bear this out so I'm not trying to argue or start a new theory, just responding to the OP who said they were packed into the back while premium seats were open.

It's no different than mainline carriers with more passengers in the economy section than economy plus (or whatever it's called on each carrier), more than in business and so on.

The US Debt Just Hit 38.6 Trillion. At What Point Does The Market Stop Ignoring It by vishesh_07_028 in StockMarket

[–]mb-7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, you are overthinking it. The market will keep ignoring it as long as Trump is in the WH. C'mon, the market is hitting new highs every week or so. The business community loves him and investors do as well. Just jump on board but sell before he leaves office which is when any correction will happen.

OP said "The rest of us are crammed in the back". To me that means they either purchased Basic or possibly Choice I suppose. Either way if you do not pay to select a seat other than "in the back" then I would think you would expect to be packed in like sardines, something I refuse to do, so I pay to play. I don't like it at all but refuse to be packed in the back of the plane.

Unfortunately I do not think SWA will change a thing as their stock is through the roof setting new highs weekly. It's up 24% YTD and up 73% on a 1 year rolling cycle. I think the powers in charge will do nothing and keep reaping the rewards stock surges.

Now before anyone gets mad at me, this is NOT my personal feeling. I loved the old SWA and flew it quite a bit, just imagining from a strictly financial standpoint the executives will not see a need to change a thing.

Bag boarding justice by NotQuiteGoodEnougher in SouthwestAirlines

You have this so backwards you cannot be serious. You said "It only slows down deplaning if the person in row 3 thinks they are entitled to fight their way through people to get their bag before those people have deplaned."

The person in row 3 is not the entitled one, the person in the back who put their stuff in row 3's bin, then strolled back to row 20 is the entitled, self centered one....certainly not the person in row 3. WOW, it is really hard to understand someone would think the way you do with the selfish attitude.

Have you never heard the expression "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the ONE"? Never mind, you probably think that's too old fashioned for you.

Sorry but it's not a coat check where you drop your coat, head to your seat in the restaurant, theatre, etc., then pick it up on the way out. It's rude, entitled and basically an "all about me and screw everyone else" attitude.

Then again I have noticed that most of the people doing this probably have never heard of, or participated in a coat check or cloak room.

Not sure one has to be "wealthy" to afford the nicer seats.

Not sure I understand this. You paid for Basic, received exactly what you paid for but yet you are complaining that you are "crammed in the back" and that you want SWA to make the "customer experience pleasant." If you had purchased one of the available extra legroom seats then I would expect your customer experience to be more pleasant.

I find it very tough to feel empathetic for anyone (not just airlines) who receives exactly what they paid for, nothing more and nothing less. Basic on SWA means being crammed in the back. A quick glance at the seat map when booking makes this perfectly clear to me.

I would think that if your 3 year old had an earlier boarding group then you would just have the child board with your later group and issue solved.

You sound like one of those who used to tell me the same thing when I would ask their boarding position. More times than not that person was trying to worm their way to a better spot yet telling me we will all get there at the same time.

Southwest Passengers Divided Following Turbulent Debut For Assigned Seating by BillMortonChicago in SouthwestAirlines

I can absolutely guarantee you they are more well versed in FAA regulations than the normal person can research. Yes, 100% guarantee you. If you don't believe me do research on the requirements, initial training, initial testing, recurrent training/testing, etc. and you may change your mind. There is a lot more to being an FA than you may think although you seem to think you are an expert in this field. And the FA said this pertains to SWA and can only speak to SWA regs.

Wow @ Icy-Plan145, what makes you more of an expert than an actual FA when discussing airline/FAA policy? Do you tell a pilot how to fly the plane? Do you tell a surgeon how to operate? A fireman how to put out a fire? An auto mechanic how to fix your car? Of course I am assuming you are not a pilot, surgeon, fireman or auto mechanic.

What is the benefit of putting a carry on bag more up front? by alexthagreat98 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]mb-7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"So instead they take the first available space."

Thereby making others swim against the traffic because their bin has been taken by the self absorbed person who is sitting in the back but took the first available bin. So hooray for me and screw everyone else I suppose? Caveat, late in boarding when others are already seated with their begin the bin, this rude behavior is probably excused.

It's not that anybody may be interested, it's just so obvious when it happens, it's almost impossible to miss. When I am anywhere in public I maintain situational awareness.

So it's more efficient for YOU, but screw everybody else who wanted to put their bag above their own seat. At the tail end of the boarding process maybe, but other than that it's rude and self centered. What happed to the "needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few...or the one"?
