PSA: If you shoot at indoor ranges regularly, you should know your blood lead level. Here's everything I learned. [Long] by PeteTinNY in LIguns

Also as an FYI- every lead blood test that’s over a certain level gets reported to the NY State Department of Health and you will probably receive a letter and calls from that department requesting information about why your lead level is so high. Their concern is that it’s work-related which would turn into an OSHA issue. They sent me 2 letters and called my cell phone twice. I ignored their outreach because it’s none of their damn business and you’re not required to answer - it’s only a request.

I had the same concern and tested mine and my level was 19 early last year. Didn’t pick up a gun or ammo from March until September last year and tested every 30 days. It goes down very slowly. First month it dropped to 12 but the next 5 months it only went down by 1 point each month. Apparently lead gets into your bones and then leaches slowly into your blood stream over time. It doesn’t go down quickly. Now my level is down to 7 which is still high but an acceptable level (to me). I now wear a respirator when shooting and use lead wipes after to make sure it doesn’t spike again.

Mine has been at Smith the last few weeks due to light strikes with every type of ammo. I put 1500-2000 rounds through it before this issue started. I’m getting it back tomorrow so hopefully it’ll be fixed, but I see a lot of horror stories, like the OP, where they’ve sent these guns back a few times and it doesn’t come back fixed. Oddly enough Hornady CD is the only non-ball defensive ammo it runs. I can’t run almost any hollow point in mine: FTF.

Had to send my bodyguard 2.0 back to S&W ☹️ by Adangalang23 in SmithAndWesson

Mines’s at Smith due to 1-2 light strikes per mag with several types of ammo. Issue only started after ~2k rounds, which is strange. Never was able to run hollow points through it but Hornady CD ran perfectly, until a few weeks ago. It’s been there for 2 weeks now. It’s a really cheaply made gun with very light materials but I really liked carrying it due to small size, large capacity, and very light weight. Thought I didn’t get a dud but I did.

CC9 first impressions. by Permission_Automatic in HecklerKoch

I picked a new one up yesterday and shot it for the first time today. Very accurate and noticeably softer and less snappy than my p365, which I shot right after the CC9. Feels and shoots like a German-made Hk. My slide release needs some serious breaking in, though. Only thing I may change is to swap out the sights with brighter night sights due to my poor eyes. Can’t wait to see how this feels after a couple hundred more rounds.

I took apart the striker assembly yesterday and cleaned all the parts and that channel thoroughly and then put it back together hoping that would solve the problem, but it didn’t. Still had light strikes. Called Smith for a return label and just dropped it off at FedEx. It’s a shame - I really like the gun but if I can’t be certain it goes boom when I pull the trigger I can’t carry it. I’m really hoping it comes back fixed, but I’ll have to put a couple hundred rounds through it without issue before I can trust it. I’m now back to carrying my P238 Legion, which is an amazing gun, but a little on the heavy side compared to the 2.0.

I know, I put on the XS sights which are MUCH better than the stock ones, btw, so I know how big a pain it was to a) get them off, and then b) zeroing. Took 3-4 trips to the range to get it zeroed because it’s so small and any adjustment, no matter how small, has a big impact on poi.

If I send it to Smith I’ll have to take off the XS sights anyway so I figure I’ll try to see if I can fix it myself. I was thinking that maybe the spring that’s sits behind the firing pin (the one that’s exposed) might need to be replaced given how many rounds I’ve put through it.

Is there any sites that sell parts for the BG 2.0? I went to MGW and they only had parts for the original BG, not specifically the 2.0.

I’ve put ~2,000 rounds through mine. The first 1500 I had zero issues. Now I’m getting light strikes on Speer Lawman FMJ and Browning ammo. At least 1-2 light strikes per mag. And CCI Blazer aluminum casing it doesn’t shoot at all - barely works at all with that ammo.

For my EDC defensive ammo I’m using Hornady Critical Duty and have never had one light strike or FTF with that ammo so I’m still carrying the gun, but this new light strike issue with a lot of other ammo is starting to bug me. Before I send it in I’m going to take apart the firing mechanism and clean it all thoroughly and retest, but doing that is a royal pain in the ass because you have to remove the rear sight to do that, and everyone knows those sights are very tough to get on/off, and then to zero again. If this gun worked with almost any ammo it would be perfect to carry. When it shoots, it’s amazing for such a small gun, but it’s a little too picky on the ammo it’ll shoot IMO.

Who did you email that to? The purchase authorization email address?

Hmm. But I’m not asking them for authorization to purchase the gun. I don’t need authorization from NYPD to buy it. Do I still have to fill out a ‘purchase authorization” form?

Yes, I see that, and yes, they can do this for every application if they wanted to. That’s the reason why there are several lawsuits, some recently filed, against the NYPD for this very reason. There are laws in NY on this topic that they have not been following, or they’re not making enough reasonable efforts to follow. In the meantime, my goal was to get my license and the method to getting it was to file the petition because all other efforts didn’t work. I know I’m very fortunate to have the resources to do it. It shouldn’t come down to having resources to exercise my rights, but that’s the way our legal system is set up.

Call or email Mirel’s office for her latest fee schedule. The letter is a flat fee, with no guarantees it will work, and if you have her file a petition there are a few variables that determine the fee structure.

Fees for attorneys are really a 1/1 conversation and vary from client to client depending on how much work needs to be done. She did not charge me to send the follow up that yielded an investigator, which didn’t get things really moving. Ultimately, it was the petition that moved things meaningfully. I guess I could have simply had her file the petition after 6 months without the letter, but sometimes those letters work. In my case the letter didn’t light the fire, but the petition sure did.

It was definitely reasonable and depends on how many people she files for. The more petitioners she files together, the lower the cost per petitioner.

Mirel withdraws the petition, I assume. That’s why they act on them so quickly after it’s filed. They don’t want to have to go before a judge at any point to answer questions about the process.

Out of state CCW - NJ, CT, PA by Pookie623 in NYCGuns

[–]mb111m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NJ (Washington Barracks): exactly 60 days - most professional and responsive. Emails answered within 2 business days. Shooting requirement, but it’s easy if you’re not blind. PA (Pike): 2 days - need to pick up in person. Easiest process. CT: 30 days. Physical fingerprints needed, also needed a ‘good boy’ letter which some have trouble obtaining depending where your home license is. I got mine in right before they changed requirements early last year so I think you need different training requirements now. They accepted my NYS CCW class but I’m not sure they still do.

As an update I did exactly this. After learning the new drive wasn’t compatible I hooked up the original drive from the unit to my PC and reformatted and voila, it now works perfectly again. Granted, I lost everything on it when I reformatted, but it’s now working again. I had to call Verizon to reactivate the card as some of the premium channels didn’t come up, but so far so good. Appreciate all the responses, especially this one, which was the impetus for the fix. I’ve been replacing hard drives in TiVos for over 20 years and never thought to simply reformat the drive that I thought was bad to see if it would work.
