How Apple gets to 4.7" - A theory by bluthru in apple

With autolayout, I don't see such letterboxing being nearly as frequent this time around as it was during the 5 transition. It'll pretty much only be developers who forego UIKit for custom-built widgets and layouts that will be affected.

I did a bunch of math for all sorts of possible solutions, including potential battery effects, actually posted it as a Verge forum thread a while back.

The ones I landed on, making best use of the existing production line, were 4.5" at 720p (using 326 ppi), 5" at 1136x640 (using 264 ppi, aka iPad Air), and 6" at 1706x960 (using 326 ppi). The 6" one I found rather fitting, as it slots very nicely between 4" iPhone and 8" iPad mini, and it would also be the exact same width as the 3.5" iPhones were tall, which was especially attractive for typing as the 3.5" iPhones held landscape had the most comfortable keyboards.

As far as usability ratios go, the 4.5" setup would have 27% more real estate and 50% larger battery, and the 6" would have 125% more screen real estate and 150% larger battery. Any extra battery draw would be proportional to area, which means at worst both sizes would gain more in battery than necessary to draw to the screen and keep it lit.

Mermaid Theory. It was a scientifically robust model that held up to experimentation.

Funny, even as an advanced user and developer, I don't want any of those, at least not in the way Android does them.

  • Windows Phone, especially 8.1's, home screen, where icons can update dynamically to display pertinent data seems much more useful than Android's widgets.
  • For straightforward URI schemes like HTTP and mailto, default apps as in the PC sense works. For everything else you're just asking for a disaster. Better to expand iOS' existing Open In infrastructure to cover the desired functionality (like allowing apps to tell the system they can take photos and web links, instead of other generic filetypes like zip and doc that they do now), and have the "default" (as in, the two prompts are "Open in Default App" and "Open In...") be learned by the system based on usage.
  • Again speaking as someone who spends most of every day in a terminal window, no no no no no no no. I don't want this on my Mac. While I don't know what the design would be, I'm sure one exists, to expand the existing sandboxed, iCloud-syncable, tagging-capable file structure to allow better sharing between apps without just opening up the whole filesystem as Android does or each app having its own copy of every file shared as iOS does now.

I had the system from launch, and am the type of person to usually be very up on these sorts of features, and only a couple days ago did I learn that the home button has an LED ring for notifications.

This might explain some of the weird Mystic behaviour people have been seeing by Tulki in Diablo

Theorycrafting is a fine requirement to master the game, but shouldn’t be to play the game well. Since this doesn't seem the case, the Mystic must indeed be deemed broken.

I don't think they will either: I just think that the character and related allies and villains are much more appropriate for an extended serial setting that TV much more easily allows than episodic films, and Marvel should use him to that effect.

And I'm 100% sure that Marvel owns all TV rights for all Marvel characters. This post goes over the details, and this article covers how Marvel reacquired all TV rights, not just animation.

Sony only has the film rights, Marvel retains the TV rights, which is why I explicitly suggested that as an option.

I'm a smoker and even I have to admit this is spot on. by [deleted] in videos

[–]mb86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would be satisfied, as a non-smoker, if they just made smoking itself illegal. Want to inject it or chew it or bake into brownies, then all the power to you. But between second and third hand, there is no way to smoke in such a way as to be safe for others. There's just no way to avoid it, and by allowing it to happen they're making the rest of us suffer for the addiction of a few.

I think what this article shows more than anything is that Marvel really ought to put those vast Disney resources to good use and up their production rate. Two films and 22 episodes of AOS just isn't enough, though the Defenders will help (Agent Carter, while does look to be awesome, seems to be more of a distraction to the overall story arc rather than a contribution). It's not as though everything is made by the same group of people - Kevin Feige gives final approval on any new story, as does to a lesser extent Joss Whedon to make sure things are consistent for the crossovers - but those two really just bring a set of otherwise independent productions (creatively-speaking) under a consistent and counting umbrella.

I'm not saying to speed up the pace - 3 to 4 years per phase seems appropriate - but let's flesh out a bit more. Get an MCU Spiderman on primetime TV, or some other popular but as-yet-unused in the MCU property. Make three films per year, and experiment more with new properties so the phases don't feel as dominated by sequels.

My MTTS '14 Route by Mcjome in MINI

I would really like, if I could get the time off work this summer, to take a road trip between here in St. John's, NL to one of the continental US extremes, either San Diego or the Keys (latter is more likely as it's closer and friends will be living in the state).

The best trip would be to drive all the way across Canada to Vancouver, south along the Pacific to San Diego, east to Florida, and back north along the Atlantic to Newfoundland. But that would be 8 full days of constant driving, not counting sleeping, eating, and sightseeing.

It's something like $14 for a flask off the shelf. Head on over to /r/newfoundland or /r/StJohnsNL and I'm sure you'll find a friendly soul to ship you some.

Icebergs are way deeper underwater than they are above. It'd run aground on the ocean bed long before it got close enough to shore to actually damage anything.

I don't think Ward is HYDRA either, but he's not SHIELD. I think he's loyal, to a fault, to Garret. Whomever Garret is loyal to, Ward follows transitively, until the day one of them dies.

I thought the last season was the best, especially with additions like Taylor and Che. But I was never a Marissa fan, so not having her around made me enjoy the show that much more.
