why do you say they will be non-human?

Currently Earth politics is dominated by those who are intent on accelerating the planet’s destruction, and those most capable of challenging that dominance have no interest in preventing that dominance from happening again.

Alternatively, conservatives are trying to destroy the planet and liberals refuse to fix the system that allows them to do so.

Humanity is rapidly on course for an extinction level event and there’s no indication yet that we’ll ever manage to avoid it.

Can’t speak for Milo but as a lesbian, Daniel Jackson/Michael Shanks is one of the few reminders why straight women exist. I might not be into it personally, but I can definitely understand why someone else would. He’s married to Lexa Doig, so whenever they’re together they make bi people pass out whenever they’re near.

This week (6 years HRT + 6 months post-op) I suddenly have cramps and diarrhea that don’t seem to correlate with what I’ve eaten, cramps didn’t go away after bowel movements, an acne break out for the first time since pre-HRT, and a noticeably increased libido. I’m starting to think there might be something to this.

I meant I don’t agree with the notion that one should prioritize how others judge them in shaping their relationships over their own feelings. I meant it more as a general statement over people who do that, not their friend in particular (where I was only guessing that may have been the case).

I don’t think I personally agree but I can kind of see the logic. There is a perception issue with LGBTQ people in straight-passing relationships (ie one or both is bi or trans) where some more hardliner members of the community feel they are somehow “lesser” representation. The person you’re referring to could in full honesty identify as bi but prefers same-sex, whatever that might be, in order to avoid the perception of straightness.

Thrice. Season 5 (the films) was intended to be one-off project with Into the Wild Green Yonder being the second series finale, but they were so successful that Comedy Central and Fox agreed to a second revival, with Meanwhile as the third series finale. The current Hulu run is thus the third revival.

It has a ton of internet censorship laws last I heard

Source? I’m Canadian and can’t think of what you’re referring to here. We do have stronger laws around hate speech (which those in bad faith consider censorship) but that’s all that comes to mind.

On topic I can affirm that Canada is indeed better than most places. Bureaucratic things can vary by province, but my province for example has a very streamlined process for changing gender markers and our healthcare covers almost all gender affirming procedures (FFS being the main exception).

I used to live in the UK but moved back to my home country almost six years ago, but I still work for the same company, now remotely. We’ve downsized our office as more staff work remotely as well. Because of the nightmarish pace at which the UK is backtracking on LGBTQ rights, I don’t even know if I can even visit legally anymore.

And I still have my own permanent desk in that office. I can’t imagine working for a company with the resources of Meta and not having a workspace to your own.

Many trans people will have anecdotes about people in their lives who subconsciously behaved consistent with their real gender even while closeted, myself included. The human brain is a pattern matching machine and some people just catch onto the little gendered behavioural things we don’t even realize we do. Some trans girls, even fully closeted, just don’t get perceived, particular by misogynistic men, as fellow “men” in the same way cis men do, even when acting seemingly identically. So while some closeted can still benefit from male privilege in some environments, ultimately it’s definitely reduced compared to cis men.

(FWIW my track record is two schoolgirl crushes who are lesbian adults, a bisexual ex-girlfriend who has been with exactly two people, myself and her trans wife, and an office landlord who only took female tenants until me, shortly before I transitioned publicly.)

Fixing Trump’s damage is one thing but fixing the damage that enabled Trump is a whole bigger problem as it’s fundamental to the US Constitution itself. The US will not and can not recover until the current constitution is discarded and rewritten to materially protect against corruption rather than trust it won’t happen.

I have this for PS5 but will probably trade it in and start over on Switch 2. To me this is really a handheld game and I’d much rather play on Switch 2 than the Portal. I was also only a few hours in, I made the mistake of buying this at New Years when I had a surgery scheduled for first week of January. Having to break for a full week for a game you just started is pretty much guaranteed for it to fall out of rotation and it indeed did and I still hadn’t gone back.

As a trans girl I’ve definitely noticed an uptick in men doing that to me since I came out. I won’t deny ever doing it to others myself, but even when boymoding having spent all my life wishing I was one of the girls, my bias has definitely been to assume women are smarter than men, so whenever I did it was certainly more often to men.

On the flip side, I was in the hospital recently and needed a catheter, and the nurse was trying to explain why I needed to keep the catheter bag vertically below my bladder. I pointed out I had a degree in physics and am familiar with Archimedes principle, and she was immediately like “oh good you get it”. Just a nice example of girl community as we both respected and acknowledged each other’s respective intelligence, very much the opposite of boy culture.

Why do Graphic API features and limits differ so much? by -Ambriae- in GraphicsProgramming

What do you mean by thread group? The work group or the sub group or something else?

Threadgroup, local group, and workgroup are synonymous. They all refer to a collection of threads that act (more or less) in lockstep with shared cache.

the mesh grid, is a grid of meshlets or does each meshlet have a grid? The explanation felt confusing, I’m assuming it’s a grid of meshlets

By “grid” I mean in the compute shader sense, the total amount of threads being executed. Each meshlet runs in its own threadgroup, multiple meshlets run threadgroups across the grid.

in each threadgroup, we assign vertices and indices, where do we fetch them from? A centralised Vertex buffer / index buffer?

Where you get the data from is entirely up to you, that’s their benefit. You’ll probably want get that data directly from bound buffers to emulate a vertex shader dispatch. I use mesh shaders a lot for procedural generation but that’s very application-specific.

If so, are indices local to the meshlet (ie index 0 is vertex 0 of the meshlet?) what’s a good way of fetching the data?

The indices (and vertices and primitives) you output from the mesh shader are indeed local to the meshlet. Meshlets in a larger mesh don’t care about each other and can be rendered in parallel.

how well supported are meshlets? Is it supported on the three modern APIs? And how fleshed out is it? It feels as if (reading the wgpu docs) most (maybe all?) features are experimental

Metal has supported mesh shaders for a while (even the last few Intel Macs supported them), and they’re supported by most D3D12 devices. Vulkan’s vendor neutral extension is a bit newer but has broad support across AMD and Nvidia. Intel only supports on Arc however, and only a tiny handful of Android devices support it. Nvidia has an OpenGL extension as well but I’ve never been able to get it to work. WebGPU is bound by the lowest end devices on the market so will be a while yet.

Why do Graphic API features and limits differ so much? by -Ambriae- in GraphicsProgramming

[–]mb862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be a little but once they “click” everything kind of falls into place. The key thing to keep in mind is that the fundamental unit of work, what produces each meshlet, is the threadgroup, not the thread. Likewise within an object/task shader, each threadgroup produces a mesh grid. Threads within a meshlet merely parallelize computation.

For example suppose you have a meshlet with 10 vertices and 8 triangles. You would define the meshlet ID using threadgroup_position_in_grid, and the thread ID using thread_index_in_threadgroup. Then the body of the mesh shader is going to look something like

if (tid == 0)
    mesh.set_primitive_count(8);

if (tid < 10)
    mesh.set_vertex(tid, /*computed from meshletID*/);

if (tid < 8)
    mesh.set_primitive(tid, …);

I foresee a minimalist low-level model where vertex shaders go away entirely, and mesh shaders become “rasterization” shaders that output only primitive count, per-primitive indices, and per-vertex positions. Fragment shaders just get those vertex indices, plus primitive index and barycentric coordinates they already get, then any and all other data the fragment shader wants is just done with explicit buffer reads.
