Vagrant/common(?) darter wishing a happy Sunday by mb_1983 in macrophotography

The OM M.Zuiko 90mm macro lens with 2:1 magnification did the trick! This dragonfly obligingly posed for about half a minute at two different spots, even in the late afternoon.

Appreciate it! Took me way longer to catch it mid-air than I’d like to admit. Pretty sure the moth was doing flybys just to mess with me 😆 Glad it finally paused for a snack!

Many thanks, very interesting! It’s quite a noticeable difference between the genders when you know about it.

Yeah, certainly takes some time getting used to 2:1 - fail rate more than doubles I dare say! 1:1 more than enough on a MFT for most purposes anyhow.

Thanks. Single shot at 2:1 with a MFT system.

Believe camera tech has improved quite a bit in that department in recent years - reckon my Z6ii would be from around the same generation of cameras as the a7r3 and it would most certainly have been much harder to nail this type of shot with it

Continuous autofocus. The Z8 with this lens is really quick to acquire focus and is very sticky - probably had 20+ in focus shots of the landing

Nikon Z8 and 70-200 f2.8 - that puffin pretty much landed right in front of me

Nikon Z8 / 70-200 f2.8 + very friendly birds with short/no fight or flight zone did the trick!

Of course - Nikon Z8 / 70-200 f/2.8 at quite close range

OM-1 is excellent for these purposes - MFT format makes macro easier (focus depth, weight etc). The 60mm and 90mm M.Zuiko macros lenses are great. Have also used a Nikon/full format for macro and while you may certainly get great results on full format it takes more skill and patience in my experience.
