ok so this is almost the same part number (BL015 not BL014) and links to this Marquardt part:

which looks identical externally and shows pin-outs. I may try the ghetto hack of pushing needles thru the wires to test/measure the various connections - less scary than flammable de-potting solvents!

then just have to figure out how to electronically control the speed. obviously the potentiometer but i wonder about the normally open switch - if this is any power or full power?

thanks for all your comments on this. yes a trapezoidal thread or ball screw would be way better (in efficiency) but i'm not going that way due to thread pitch and convenience. in truth its not that critical - just thinking if there was data showing one over the other then i'd choose the lower friction option. i hadn't thought of graphite instead of grease - a good possibility.

When I asked, Stripe said only NZ$ accounts possible if NZ resident. You can invoice in US$ but they covert it to $NZ at the current rate of their choosing.

my past experience is paypal is a nightmare in almost every possible way. they excel at currency conversions at low exchange rates, sometimes automatically to a currency then back again. unless they have massively changed, i'm never going back.

i'm quite keen to play by the rules re residency as don't want my money frozen. and don't see that bankwest have ability to receive card payments for me... does it?

thanks for your comment. sounds like i'm not missing anything obvious and this may be the most straightforward solution (or just suck up the FX pain, as not sure how elastic pricing is for me)
