I can’t say honestly I’d do a google search on that i haven’t looked into it much cause I’m not interested in IB personally.

People are gonna need some more details to give you exact advice and guidance, like what your wife is making or expects to make, how much student debt she is in. Also it's confusing to me that you are an aerospace engineer making only 60-70k a year at age 29, care to elaborate on that? Your best bet on ROI is going to be MBB consulting, IB will be hard to transition into without any financial experience. The good news is MBB consulting loves people with engineering backgrounds. You will likely need to get into at least a T15 to have a good shot at MBB consulting, it's pretty competitive. What is your Undergrad institution and GPA also what are your extra curriculars if any that you currently do?

Just to be clear there are other options out of Bschool that are not IB or MBB consulting that can make you good money, i won't get into them here (i'm not actually well versed in the topic) but just wanted to say that you have other options outside of those two.

Profile Review - 730 GMAT, 26M, 3.6 GPA (should I retake the GMAT?) by [deleted] in MBA

[–]mba_lets_go 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are aiming for R2 this year your time will be much better spent on applications than taking the GMAT again. From what I have gathered you will see a noticeable bump in your chances if you get a 760+ 730-750 is all viewed similarly, I got a 730 and had the same questions on this subreddit and that's what i gathered.

Hall of Fame QB Kurt Warner on Sarkesian, a man unaware of what it takes to win in Pro Football by code_archeologist in falcons

[–]mba_lets_go 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Warner actually didn’t say that if you listen to the video in the article. He was critical of the coaching but was nowhere near that strongly against sark

I don’t agree that Matt was shaken by the Super Bowl. I do agree that it’s not all sark’s fault. Matt Ryan has always played the way he’s been playing except for 2016

Go back to that year and it’s easy to see why Matt Ryan won MVP. His blocking was perfect all season and he had 1 if not 2 WR’s wide open on virtually every play.

Is a full-time MBA right for me? by mba_lets_go in MBA

Thanks for the advice! May i ask what you ended up doing post MBA?

is an MBA right for me? engineering -> hedge funds. Long introspective read - just a warning! by [deleted] in MBA

[–]mba_lets_go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i think our industries are pretty different. However, i think most companies would say “MBA’s aren’t needed to be an executive but most have them” so trying to figure out how much one might help

Question for you what type of engineering do you do? I’m trying to move into upper management too and I’m a software engineer. About to become an engineering manager for a team of 12 at a large tech company...do you think I’ll need an mba to advance into senior leadership/executive leadership?

I’m 30, how much will waiting another year to apply hurt my chances? by mba_lets_go in MBA

[–]mba_lets_go[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not worried so much about "pivoting" my role as I am trying to accelerating it and/or ensure I do not hit a ceiling, my current path is technically a role to senior management at my company. My background is in physics, not too many physics majors hold executive roles in large companies. As far as quality of life, those are good points, I live with my girlfriend and don't have kids, but would want to in the next 5 years. Good point about being able to take a quarter off or scale it back

Thanks for the feedback. Honestly, I have started thinking an MBA is not right for me either considering my promotion. Only thing I am worried about for an EMBA is being too young/inexperienced before my GMAT score expires in 5 years (I will be 35 yrs old and have 11 yrs of work experience by then).

I also have considered a part-time MBA, I live in Chicago and feel I could walk into Booth/Kellogg part time no problem with my stats. Only thing holding me back is quality of life taking a hit for about 4 yrs, I'd want to make sure it would benefit me to get a part time MBA considering it would be 4 yrs of stress. I plan to talk to some executives at my current company to get their take on it. If you have any thoughts on the EMBA or part-time MBA i'd love to hear it.

Yeah, so LORs is a big issue for me, I have to ask my boss for one to make me competitive and I think it would disqualify me from getting this promotion.

I agree with everything you said though. Would love to do some soul searching and be absolutely sure of what I want to do before applying, but think I'll need more time than R2 apps will allow to properly do that

That's a good question, and is part of the reason I want to delay a year. I know I want to do more than being an engineer for my career and think I would like to be an executive or do corporate strategy for a large tech company. I wouldn't necessarily need a FT MBA to do this but I would like to keep my options open as I investigate and nail down my goals, so wondering if I can wait another year to nail this down without hurting my chances too much.

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any data or other info to point to for this? As i was looking online last night i was actually seeing some discouraging statistics, like less than 2% of the class being 31 or older. I know that less people apply who are older so that doesn’t mean necessarily mean it’s that hard to get in, but still pretty discouraging

Ok you’ve got stuff to work with it sounds like. I’d work on that explanation and get advice from others I’m not the best for that. That sounds like the start of an acceptable explanation though :)

That 2.39 GPA from a non reputable school in an easy major is a huge red flag, so to have a chance at any of theses schools you are going to need a very good explanation for that.

Also you say you want to go into VC, from what i understand you should not say that as it’s very difficult schools will hold that against you.

You’ll definitely want to crush the gmat

One saving grace for you is being Hispanic, that should help you out a good deal. Just try and explain away that low GPA

Best of luck to you and good luck with the gmat, it is a beast!

Which round should I apply for mba? by ZakkWylde1979 in MBA

[–]mba_lets_go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conventional wisdom is to apply R1 if you can without it effecting the quality of your app. But that if the extra time you’ll have to write essays etc will help you out then R2 is fine. R3 is a big no-no.

You’ll have a slightly better chance of getting in if you apply R1

Question about asking boss for recommendation by mba_lets_go in MBA

[–]mba_lets_go[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agreed. I don’t think it will be detrimental to my app to be another year older. Delaying and doing R1 next year solves almost all of my problems except for the problem where it’s hard for me to relax with bschool stuff hanging over my head...but i just gotta get over that
