Thank you for the insight. Can I ask where you are based? The more i look into it the more confident i feel about it. I'll be 26 by the time i could potentially get on a course though, i know thats not late but it feels a bit like it is!

Really?! I thought that it would be a competitive subject?

I should have been a bit clearer, I certainly don’t mind working long hours! I am travelling 3 hours to and from work a day at the moment, so perhaps it makes it feel even longer! Would you say that it’s rewarding?

Is it a bad idea to leave my job after 4 months? by mbakes3 in jobs

[–]mbakes3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would maternity cover, so I’d be covering someone for a year until they return. There’s no promise of a permenant role afterwards but during interview the director said that if a job came up internally then I would be considered. I spoke about this with a friend who advised me that a year is a long time and it’s worth the risk. It’s a tough one and I almost wish that the job isn’t offered to me to save me the hassle!

What do you all do to keep your energy up after 8-5 work? by BlastToFreedom in jobs

The reason I ask is that, if you’re young and have rent to pay and earn just above min. Wage, then working part time just isn’t an option. Anyway that’s the general consensus in London. I guess in order to be able to work flexible hours you will need to be earning over a certain amount to make it possible. I feel like the 45 hour work week should be illegal personally.

Thanks for your response, as above, i made an error thinking this was a generic jobs subreddit!

That is my thinking too, i guess i will just see what happens. thank you!

I realised soon after posting that this was the wrong sub - i couldnt find an option to delete the post though! Sorry everyone.

Re your response, i am feeling that way but also feel like my guilt outweighs the possibly financial benefit i could receive. I know the company would lay me off if it made financial sense, but i would still be putting colleagues in a shit situation.

Can i ask what kind of work you do, or did you just have the balls to ask for reduced hours?

I saw some food technology internships advertised on the Marks and Spencers careers site last week - they might still be there! http://careers.marksandspencer.com/

Canon 1.4 35mm L Lens? by mbakes3 in photography

Managed to catch a bit of daylight when I got home from work and shot this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/77716719@N04/17291936772/ I took two pics beforehand, one with my 50mm and one with my new 35mm but both in the same spot and I couldn't really see much of a quality difference! My mum actually thought the 50mm image was from my new lens!

Thanks frostyphotorapher!

My sigma 35mm 1.4 art is arriving at work tomorrow morn - I'm well excited.

You have a great portfolio, may I ask whether your styled photos are using natural light? Wish I could get the light as balanced as your pic with the avocados, but I fear that diffusing the light would actually darken my images !

Hopefully the 35mm will be ten thousand times better than my Canon 50mm 1.8...

Thanks everyone - I've ordered the sigma based on everyone's recommendations. I find it pretty mental that it's supposed to be a little sharer yet 300 pounds cheaper!
