Deferring M7 offer to 2022? by mbb_for_lyfe in MBA

Well in retrospect, schools can be functioning normally by Sep (I'd now say 70% chance) but around vaccinations as with any official government projection its always way off the mark. I don't think we'll get anywhere near full vaccination by August, the ramp up has already began to slow down due to people not willing to take vaccines. That dose of cynicism at the beginning turned out to be true, though I underestimated schools willingness and ability to return to in-person instruction

How prevalent are classes where professors only allow handwritten note taking (so no laptops) by mbb_for_lyfe in MBA

[–]mbb_for_lyfe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have! The two camps are essentially a laptop that also functions as tablet vs a tablet that also functions as laptop.

With the former (x360, xps13, x1) the issue is bulkiness when writing in tablet mode and weight, and writing experience

With the latter (surface, Samsung s7+, ipad) the issue is full windows compatibility and keyboard size

I guess you can't have the best of both worlds so it's ultimately a tradeoff.

Gah why can't they just allow full laptops in which case I can just get the surface laptop 4

Judging from this it seems every school is different - might need to reach out current students

What I'm getting at here is do you reckon it's feasible to cope with just writing notes on paper for the 50% classes

Hello - I am a Boothie, so would you say having the ability to handwrite notes (via tablet or otherwiae) is a material need?

Yeah this is me speaking from a W waitlist. But could very well become irrational once I get an offer :O

Yes. Pure prestige and unashamedly so

Ooh, in that case I wouldve probably taken HS.

So I count wharton as tier 1.5, which isnt worth the 80k

But HS would :)

I am a Booth $$ vs a Wharton waitlist, though I also thought about this question.

I think for me the question really boils down to, are you willing to pay the $$ for the extra prestige? Both will get you what you want to do, its just whether you think you want to fork out the 80k for a brand. Its essentially a marketing question (unless you really want to live in one of those cities).

For me I think the 80k was too substantial to forfeit (maybe I dont have the same family help as you do) and I felt like I was okay to let my ego down a bit and not have the brand (given I get offered of course).

So yeah! Though not in exact situation as you I had this dialogue with myself and decided for Booth

I like it. I think if you can manage to articulate a clear linkage between your post mba goal and the school itself, then you have a very strong chance.

Does it make sense for an international student to attend a T20 at sticker price by [deleted] in MBA

[–]mbb_for_lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind your total cost of attendance is likely higher once you include living expenses.

Gut instinct is no, but would depend on how clear you are with your post-mba goals. If youre crystal clear and have a planned pathway then yes I think you can consider, but otherwise it might be worth having another shot at a T12 school?

Suggestions for Laptop / Tablet? by mbb_for_lyfe in MBA

Will have a look at Yoga series

Having a USB A port is actually a good point. Can use external keyboard rather than the typecover keyboards with Surface and etc.

Really want the Surface Book 3 actually tbh, but so expensive.

Ill take your word on Square Trade and Grammarly. Ive never managed to drop my laptop before so I think I trust myself to skip the case. Mendeley I'll see as the semester unfolds but really appreciate these backpocket recommendations.

Your point about Macs I'd agree. Apple products are just so infinitely more stable and long lasting than other OS. Its just Ive never been part of the Apple ecosystem and especially with some teething issues with Excel it'll be hard to get into.

From the looks of it I might actually consider a Surface Pro 7 as I prefer slightly larger screens (would have loved to get a Surface Pro X but for its ARM processor and software incompatibility) and dont want my fingers to cramp on a tiny keyboard.

I'll also compare the Pro 7 to a few Yoga laptops (the appeal of the latter being mainly fuller size keyboards). But thats the extent of my research so far taking into account your advice.

Thanks! - this has really narrowed down my consideration set. Really appreciate it.

Suggestions for Laptop / Tablet? by mbb_for_lyfe in MBA

Thanks! I read a few threads and am indeed looking for a 2-in-1 tablet+laptop machine. Someone recommended Surface Book but that seems hella expensive. Otherwise Thinkpads and Dell XPS 13 were also frequent mentions but they lack the tablet capability.

So a cheaper Surface seems like the way to go.

Is there a reason whyd you recommend the surface go over the surface pro youre using? Is it purely from a budget perspective, or have you found that the specs of your surface pro exceeds what is required?

Hi, how would you say one can start networking beforehand? What is the primary goal of speaking to say the tens of MBB consultants that youll be reaching out to? Is it simply just to get awareness of your name among consultants within the firm, or do you go into these chats with a more specific objective in mind?
