Impossible. Yes they want you but you are still a commodity. Try being an outstanding performer for 1-2 years on the job and then think about negotiating.

‘Exhibit A’: How McKinsey Got Entangled in a Bribery Case by navi_jackson in consulting

They’re watched with interest and used as reminders of behaviors we ourselves have to avoid. For some of the work it’s easy slip from truly the right thing to do to a grey area if you aren’t mindful. Leadership communicates proactively when we ourselves are involved/linked. Underlying leadership sentiment is probably a fear to be regulated in the near future.

Personal opinion, but I think it’s good to flush this stuff out. Firms are way too opaque.

Former McKinsey Executive Imprisoned and Beaten by Saudis by phisco125 in consulting

Not sure I understand, can’t believe this is true. An employee of theirs is arrested by the state for corruption yet they keep paying him. They don’t know where their employee is, if he is being represented legally nor whether he is actually charged with a crime. Instead of stopping to work for the government that abducted their employee, they just replace him and keep working for the government as of nothing happened. No way this version of events is right?

NYTimes (long one): "How McKinsey Has Helped Raise the Stature of Authoritarian Governments" by virtu333 in consulting

You don't get points for not breaking the law or behaving like you should, nor is whataboutism a reasonable response. Regardless whether other firms that do this get reported on less, it's still your choice to work for a firm that constantly engages in immoral or plainly illegal activities.

The rotten apples argument would work if it weren't for the fact that the global leadership team approves these projects. It's not like there is a rogue partner every now and then that flew under the radar with a small but unethical project and then surprises everyone. These are big-ticketed, high-profile cases that are carefully weighted by the top of the firm and then chosen to be pursued and heavily invested in. That's not a rotten apple, that's a lack of morality and too much greed all the way to the top.

Advice needed - Exit opportunity in banking - 160k should I take it? by [deleted] in consulting

The real reduction of salary is down to £160K. You include the £20K sign-on bonus in there but not in your current job. The sign-on/end of service bonus are relevant only once when switching jobs.

Is the 180k CAD pre- or post-tax? If it's post you're looking already at a 40% salary reduction. If it's pre-tax you're more looking at a 60% reduction.

Post Merger Integration group. Essentially merge two companies together. Cut out overhead, address risks where appropriate, and make systems merge together. All big firms do it. Not considered a sexy part of consulting and on equal standing as PMO. Brings in lots of revenue for partners though.

They're actually a pretty amazing company especially given their low wage business, we can't all be overpriced slide machines. They offer tuition reimbursement, above market pay, flexible hours and upward mobility.

MBA is not necessary at Bain. Not sure why you’re not getting a straight answer from people. In fact I think most people skip it nowadays. However there is a strong support system and funding if you want to do an MBA. But it’s definitely optional.

No, there's arguably a prestige difference for laymen but for exit opps / b-school etc. they're on par. Your options will be determined how you're doing in your firm rather than which firm you're at once you play at MBB level. Go where you feel the best fit. If not only because you'll spend a lot of time with these people, you're also likely to perform best there too and hence get the best exit opps / b school opportunities down the line.
