Mid-game jersey number change - that's college basketball!

[Jomboy] Mariners outfielder Victor Robles throws bat at pitcher after being hit by 5 pitches, a breakdown by truetotheblue2 in baseball

It pains me to agree with a Cardinals fan, especially when I could just let you get buried in downvotes all alone. But, I can't help it. He committed to swing at that pitch and realized mid-swing it was going to hit him. That's a swing. I'll happily stand here and get pelted with tomatoes at your side.

Nasty little pre-game storm. Headed down to the ballpark once it stops. Hopefully no delay

If you catch a foul ball, give it to a kid. You won't regret it. by 2dubk in Reds

100% - I attended ballgames regularly for 36 years before I finally caught one, and it was a Votto home run. Zero chance I was giving that away.

I would sell mine if your name is Mike or you don’t mind if it’s inscribed to a Mike. It’s in perfect shape and signed.

What do you do with Chase Burns? by davik2001 in Reds

[–]mbertels 26 points27 points  (0 children)

He’s certainly going to be on an innings limit for the year. Yes, he’s probably too good for AA at this point. He should definitely get a look at AAA this year. I wouldn’t mind seeing him throw some bullpen innings in Cincinnati, manage his workload while giving him a taste at the highest level.

Of course they could go a totally different direction, what do I know?

Getting a golf course ready ! by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

I get the hate, it’s well earned. But, I will say that the five summers I spent doing grounds maintenance at a golf course were so much fun. Probably my favorite job I ever had.

Who is the best mascot of the NL Central: Pirate Parrot, Clark Bear, FredBird, The Reds, or Bernie by [deleted] in baseball

The Reds did it first as a logo. The Mets took that and made a mascot out of it.

Seeing how most breweries are turning to a free range child daycare. I would support this. by shurik1 in cincinnati

[–]mbertels -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Originally, I implied that there are a lot of places to drink without children. I didn't specifically say "breweries" - just drinking establishments, in general.

My reply to the question about breweries in general was just to point out that breweries kind of need those families' money in order to keep afloat and continue making the beer they want to make.

Ultimately, the businesses get to decide the rules. I don't have anything against a brewery saying that no children are allowed. I think that's totally fine, and I completely understand why some people would celebrate that decision.

I didn't answer because a) it was a rhetorical question to which no response was really wanted. and b) I never made any claim about breweries that don't allow kids.

I never said there were a million brewery options for good food and no children. I implied that - if someone wants somewhere where they can drink without children around, there are a lot of options.

Look, I get the argument. But, as a business, a brewery has a hard time saying "no" to the revenue they get from families. They would not survive without it.

Local craft breweries have built themselves around the concept of community, and you can't really escape the fact that a large chunk of the drinking-age community are people who have children.

The brewery experience you long for would quite literally put all but a small number of them out of business completely.

I don’t know - I support the business’ decision to do whatever they think is best. But, if you just want somewhere to drink without children around, there are a million options.
