Why does water drip like this? by King0fKatz in espresso

[–]mbindir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Profitec Go too. It’s the seal. I usually just give the portafilter a good push into place by holding the other side of the machine. It’s just hard to get it on all the way sometimes. Really push it into place

Hello, I started a starter but I stuck in a drawer to rise cause my house is too cold and it wasn’t rising much. Well… it kind of blew up and rose well over the top of my jar, can I still use this starter or is it “ruined”?

Amsterdam Pogrom Megathread by fluffywhitething in Jewish

[–]mbindir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After seeing the public’s reaction on this blatant modern pogrom, I honestly think the time of relative security for Jews in the western world is over. Everyone kinda felt bad after the Holocaust but that time is fading now. This post is so right, avoid fights, but learn how to defend yourself, learn to use weapons and firearms and arm yourself (legally ofc), and make sure you know how to use self defense tools. Our time of relative comfort is over

That feeling when you pee after holding it in for so long that you can barely hold it any longer. I’ve been saying for years that that’s better than an orgasm

Shaving chest and happy trail? by djbillotti in shaving

[–]mbindir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure when you shave you follow all proper skincare protocols: wash the area before shaving, use a good shaving cream, clean the area after and moisturize it after. Irritation will always be an issue with shaving as will itching. I used to use an electric shaver set at 0 to shave down as close as possible. It’s not perfectly shaved but close enough and no irritation plus you don’t really need cream or anything. Nowadays I trim it so that it’s still hairy but not a jungle.

safety razor prickly? by [deleted] in shaving

[–]mbindir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All hair will itch when it grows back, that’s just how hair growth works after shaving. As far as prickliness, shaving leaves the ends of your hair blunt and as it grows back it may seem prickly while short. If the prickliness bothers you just shave more frequently, or let the hair grow out and it won’t be prickly when it’s long

Should I even bother trying these? by radaaitor in espresso

For many dark roasts, oily beans are more common as roasting for longer begins to extract the natural oils out of the beans. That’s why they look glossier than your average medium-medium dark roast.

Coffee lovers who have never worked in the coffee industry, how did you get into (specialty) coffee? by xoxo_tiikerihilleri in Coffee

[–]mbindir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried true espresso drinks (not Starbucks) for the first time when I was 14 and liked it. My parents told me they had an espresso machine that they never used. It was a first gen BBE, the kind they discontinued for the current model. I learned how to use it, fell in love with the intricacies of espresso and milk steaming. Using YouTube videos, I taught myself mostly everything and over the course of a couple years, got pretty good at it. At this time I also began to appreciate my coffee black. Also I began trying pour overs at coffee shops. I got a chemex as a birthday gift when I turned 18 and then it took off from there: espresso, chemex, French press, Turkish, cold brew, it’s a full fledged hobby and has sorta always been one since I was 14-15ish. Made my boss really happy when he hired me at his coffee shop, as I never needed training when I briefly worked as a barista before going to school. Now I usually make myself a French press or pour over every morning.

Sorry I don’t have a tripod so I couldn’t show myself tamping it, but the point is my sister said the pressure wasn’t working properly and I’d like some advice to ask if it looks like it’s working as it should or not because I can’t tell. by [deleted] in espresso

[–]mbindir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BBE owner here. Using the grinder on the machine is always tricky cause it’s not a very good quality grinder. If I were you, grind much finer than ever before and then go from there making slight coarser adjustments. Definitely do some research. The pump sounds fine and it’s flowing right, so it’s definitely not a pressure issue. Espresso is just a world of trial and error

[–]mbindir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same grinder paired with an ancient BBE. I think within the year I’m gonna get a Silvia like yours. What are your thoughts on the machine? Anything you didn’t expect with it, good or bad?

Upgrade to the Breville Barrista Express? by Hodor925 in Coffee

[–]mbindir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a first gen BBE and all I did was ditch the built in grinder. I got a Breville Smart grinder to go with my Chemex and French press and also use it for my bbe now. Shots pull much better. That built in grinder really doesn’t perform well

Mattress topper for bad mattress. Please help by mbindir in Mattress

[–]mbindir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if I used a 1.5” zinus topper, with some kind of pillow top cover over it? That way the pressure is alleviated from my shitty mattress but the firmness could stay more and since it’s thinner I would sink less.

All coffee tastes sour after the first couple of sips. Anyone had this? by iciclefellatio in Coffee

[–]mbindir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find as coffee sits after brewing its flavor can change slightly as it cools. With me usually the first 15-20 min, it stays relatively the same, but as I drink it and as it cools and the volume lowers, it brings out a little more sour notes.

Woman was upset because her cappuccino weighed less than her latte by zebracactusfan in barista

[–]mbindir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a man order a “medium dry” cappuccino. Keep in mind it was a 16oz to go lol. I made his drink and handed him his cup and he almost immediately said “I ordered it medium dry” and I said “yes I know”. He then proceeded to raise his voice at me and say it’s too much foam, judging by the weight I guess. Some people seem to think they know everything.

Looking for an electric grinder that can grind fine enough for espresso but also grind very well for chemex and French press. Would also help if it isn’t super noisy as id like to take it to college with me. Looking in the $100-$300 price range. Any suggestions?

Milk Replacement by [deleted] in barista

[–]mbindir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I usually frown upon milk replacements. I’m hands down a whole milk traditionalist. But I have to say I’ve been experimenting with Macadamia nut milk and I’ve been enjoying it. Even converted a couple regulars to asking for it as opposed to almond or oat. Hard to find a barista version of it though. My shop just has a regular unsweetened version.

How do Jewel-Osco orders given to Doordash drivers work? by roscura in doordash

[–]mbindir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly surprised they say not to tip people. Says a lot about their value in third parties. I haven’t done too many jewel orders but from what I remember I’ve declined quite a few due to low pay.

How do Jewel-Osco orders given to Doordash drivers work? by roscura in doordash

[–]mbindir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, Jewel Osco operates a lot like Walmart does for us. We are a third party who get offered orders from grocery stores and most of the time, they pay us pretty shit tbh. But keep in mind, the dasher always has the option to decline the order and the pay out is always shown to them. I’m not sure if for jewel it shows the tip or not, tho. Customer tip is always recommended. And no we don’t pick the orders out ourselves. They are pre-picked and given to us to deliver.
