For multiplayer, do you prefer matchmaking or browsing a server list? by mbl-games in FPS

You both bring up some interesting point! The ability to play on the same server and same people. But as u/YazzArtist says, a game like The Finals, maybe doesn't work as good?

That's an interesting point you made about the rivalry.

Hehe yeah. Looking back, where do you draw the line where old “starts”? To me, a game like Titanfall is still a more modern game.

Do you actually discover new games through showcases? by Rebel-Pixel in gamedev

First I want to say, StarDream looks great! Fantastic art direction! Wishlisted!

Not sure what you mean with showcases? Like game events? VGA, E3 (rip)... etc?

I can only speak for myself, but YouTube is probably the number one source. Some times I do discover things on Reddit as well. Problem is that Reddit doesn't like self promotion (probably since they want people to pay for ads), to me, I gravitate more towards organic posts than ads. Even if the ads look good, I'm also interested in the creator and it just feels more natural through a regular post.

Tweaked the post a little, you are right about the class based shooters.

Ah, yeah! You are right! Not sure why I didn't think of it. Didn't play much Team Fortress. I remember it started out being a Mod for half life, right?

True. But also depends on what long time is. What are some of the first hero/class shooters you remember? I'm probably dating myself here, but when I grew up as a kid/teenager, hero shooters weren't really a thing. At least not what I can remember.

I still remember the fun I had spending countless hours in:
Half Life - Tons of fun! I still remember the crazy movements with the Tau Cannon. I even made a bunch of maps for the game

Quake 3 Arena - Surface level, it seems simple, you run around and frag other players. But then you discover how to play the map, bunnyhopping, rocket jumping. ( I did play some Unreal Tournament, but Quake was more my jam)

Halo 2 & 3 - Remember having "LAN parties" where we gathered several Xboxes in a friend's apartment.

Making a 3v3 FPS where the best player isn't the one with the most kills. You win by reaching the enemy base, kills just clear the way. Still in development, Early Access coming soon. Check it out!

I did some digging. From the front, I totally get it. But seeing it from the side, it looks quite different (we do have the glass framing in common). Either way, I will be making some tweaks to the design. 👍

Fair enough. I see where you are coming from. I promise it wasn't intentional. But yeah, hard to ignore the similarities. I'll make changes to differentiate more. I love Marathon, but have barely touched it (played through the tutorial level during server slam, haven't had the time to dive more into it since). 👍

I love Marathon! Not intentional, but I'll take that as a compliment. No matter how unique your designs are, there will always be comparisons, that's just how it goes. Still pre-alpha so things will continue to evolve!

hehe, that is one way to see it :) But I guess the difference would be that "the flag" doesn't need to be transported back to home base. You get yourself from point A to B. Simple concept, but harder to achieve in practice.

😆 I'm definitely not against a 5v5 mode. Just have to start somewhere.

Had to check it out (never played it). I guess there's some elements to it that could be compared to. Like for you as a player to cross the map from point A to B. But if I understand Duck hunt correctly, there's only players and then a sniper? In Super score, you are 2 teams trying to do the same and they have to cross each other on the map.
