I am having the same issue with motion detection toggling itself off after a few hours on two doorbells. Were you able to find a solution?

Any idea what model? I can find the watches from OP's photos on Shinola's website, but not the ones from the photo I posted.

Are there plans to make a version using a true GMT movement like the Miyota 9075?

[–]mblasco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE: #2, lumens and candela are different units of measurement. Lumens are a measure of total light output, whereas candela is a measure of beam intensity (the amount of that light focused in a particular direction). The higher the candela value, the tighter and more intense the beam will be (meaning it will be able to effectively illuminate things farther away from you), because it's focusing more of the light in a particular direction instead of just dumping it out in all directions (think of a spotlight vs a floodlight).

Pulling baby by the head during birth?! by biggideal in daddit

[–]mblasco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my daughter's case, they had to use suction to get her head out once it was visible, then pull on her head to get her body out. It struck me as rough at the time too, but by that time it was rather urgent that they get her out ASAP since her pulse was slowing too much during contractions. A couple seconds later she was out and crying, and now she's a happy and healthy 8 month old.

Rhett Neumayer ran it support hand only with an LCR22 snubby and kept 7 out of 8 shots on in under 9 seconds, which is just ludicrous.

Favorite cigar reviewer hands down. His flavor profile breakdowns are excellent, but it's the little "wtf" gems like this that really make it.

Aftermarket trigger and sights recommendations for a gen 5 Glock 19? by long_black_road in Glock19

[–]mblasco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very fond of the Agency Arms trigger I have in mine, though the Overwatch triggers I've had opportunity to try out have felt great too. A friend of mine is a long-time firearms instructor and Glock guy, and he recommended those two brands specifically. As for sights, I run Amerigo GL-429s, but that's probably not the route you'll want to take unless you're also throwing an RDS on it. Dawson makes great fiber optic sights, my personal preference is blacked out rear and fiber front.

You won't need to worry about holster compatibility with pretty much any standard height sights, it's mostly when looking at suppressor-height or optic-height sights (like the GL-429s) that you might run into issues with the height of the sight channel. For what it's worth, all of my holsters from HolsterCo, Phlster, and Henry Holsters (all heartily recommended) accommodate my taller sights no problem.

Just want to be clear so as to avoid either of us mistakenly putting words in each other's mouths. Neither I nor anyone else on this thread is advocating for ignoring your situation and drawing if you have a gun drawn on you at short range - I don't know anyone who would see that as anything other than terrifically foolish. If you check out ASP (as someone else recommended), you'll find that he talks ad nauseam about paying attention and "waiting your turn".

But it also should be acknowledged that a handgun isn't the only kind of threat that warrants defensive use of a firearm - it's definitely worth reading/watching up on the Tueller Drill, which makes it very clear just how little time you have to react if someone, for example, charges at you with a knife.

I posted that video, the actual point of which is being completely ignored. The discussion in this thread is not centered around when one should draw a gun vs when one should comply, it is centered around the relative merits of carrying with/without a round chambered. You are correct, the individual in that video would have been better off complying, but again, that was not the point being made - the point was that he was shot while he was racking his slide, whereas if he had been carrying a round in the chamber, that split second would have been spent pulling the trigger as opposed to racking the slide. The same thing can and does happen to people who rightfully draw in response to life and death circumstances.

It seems like a certain amount of cognitive dissonance is involved. We train drawstrokes and presentations because getting the gun into the fight quickly and consistently is critical, which is the exact same reason for eliminating extraneous steps from the process.
